INTRODUCTION:
Me [BludPanda] and my friend HeirOfAzrael have been building in this game for years. We've always been obsessed with the Batman mythos and have built so many projects pertaining to it from Arkham Asylums to Wayne Manors to, of course, Gotham itself. After so many attempts we have learned so much. This Gotham City is our final attempt, a monument to all that we have learned about architecture, art direction, and tone. We have constructed a plan for a complex, detailed, yet compact Gotham that we have always dreamed of seeing in official Batman media--this is our perfect Gotham City, and you get to see it realized island by island, starting with Miagani.FULL CITY PROGRESS: ~15%

INTRODUCTION:
PROJECT PLAN:
We plan to release sections of the map here for each set amount of progress we make--each submission will include more and more of the city. This is so that people interested can have a tangible time frame in which they can experience this map. Each submission is hopefully more and more exciting as we reach bigger and bigger areas of the City. Our first submission will be for Miagani Island, the shortest of the inner islands, which includes Bexley, Park Row, Industrial District, and Dock Yards.EXPLORATION:
This project is primarily an 3d art piece, but we also want the city to be massive story in of itself. The shape of the city reflects the rough path we want to take our audience in. From the poorest district wedged between the industrial zone and the central highway line around to the richest district where great, gothic-deco buildings rise to the peaks of Gotham. Every single block will and is detailed with its own secrets and alleyways providing insight into the history and state of this corrupt, horrific, yet beautiful city. We aren't interested in copy-paste macro-builds that solely look good from far away. We want a city frozen in time, not just to peer at, but to enter and navigate. We may also include hidden collectables and unmarked mysteries for more content down the line.SOURCES OF INSPIRATION:
Our dream Gotham is one that combines grounded expressionism and vibrant fantasy together into a unique atmosphere that is believable yet exaggerated. The best example of this balance of tone is the game Batman: Arkham Asylum--A world that feels so gritty and real with its many details and realistic graphics, yet also contains fantastical, Bronze Age motifs and designs. Somehow the odd reality of a crocodile man, a clay shapeshifter, and a goofy clown molded perfectly with a realistic, horror-esque art style. While this is our favorite interpretation of the tone of Gotham, this project is taking inspiration from countless sources including movies like The Batman [2022], Batman [1989], and Joker [2019] and the works of Hugh Ferris, Anton Furst, and Lee Bermejo. Architectural styles we take from include: Gothic, Neo-Gothic, Gothic Revival, Elizabethan, Georgian, New York, Chicago, Neo-Classical, Brutalist, German Expressionism, ~Steampunk, and ~Spanish Colonial Revival. We love Gothams that feel timeless and classic--a mix of retro futurism and vintage 1900s.
