"Weove been working on finishing up Achievements and Statistics for 1.5, I ran into some issues with JSON, got frustrated, and added weather instead. Developing new features like that is what I enjoy doing the most, so I ended up covering a lot of ground. Thereos periodic downfall (snow in snowy areas, rain in others, nothing in deserts) that make the sky darker, hides the sun, moon and stars, and makes everything wet. Ice grows back in cold regions, and snowfall covers the ground when itos snowing. During rain/snow, there can be occasional thunderstorms with lightning. I havenot finished the actual lightning bolt yet, but everything else is fairly done.
Once the stats are done and the weather has been tested through, weoll release 1.5. Iom guessing this will be next week. The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5." [Taken from Notch's blogpost ]
This update looks more annoying then helpful, unless it's realistic. Rain every two minutes would be annoying. In the video he probably had the chances of rain higher to let us see what it's like, but even so, I don't want it to be another flood. It will also probably lag out most people's computers due to more lag. If anyone remembers way back in the day when there was snow, you always skipped those worlds (at least I did) because the snowfall was annoying.
Achievements and statistics at least look more helpful, I TOTALLY want to see how addicted to this game I am. =] Hopefully it will have support for SMP as well as SSP.
