Our world runs on natural resources such as oil, and corn right?! Then we have other natural but less useful resources such as various precious gems. Much like real life, Minecraft runs on a similar economy......... the main resources are Gold, Iron, Diamonds, Emeralds, Redstone, Coal, and Lapis!

I believe these minecraft items should be the only items you can Sell to the shops...let me explain....... have you ever been to a server where you can get rich on something stupid and easy to get!?!? that makes a server boring. It creates a disadvantage for any new players facing some arse hole in full diamond armor, that he got from selling cobblestone!! Instead you buy these ores at high prices sell them for slightly less! it keeps a steady cashflow from player to player!

As for items you can purchase (excluding the ores) would be simple things like Books, Bookshelf's, Logs, Cobblestone, Bread, Reeds, and Glowstone. This is what keeps people working for their materials!!! what fun is a server that you can be rich in a day??

The prices are also a huge factor on a good economy. One does not simply sell bread for five and buy iron for 10..... you cant have petty foods or wood cost anywhere near your ores... and the prices of ores should be in this order from least to greatest for various reasons...
Redstone>Coal>Lapis>Iron>Gold>Diamond>Emerald
Sell Lapis only in Blocks.....

An economy is what defines any PVP or PVE server, If its economy isn't anything close to what i mentioned.....then that server is trash......

Well if you are planning to create a minecraft server good luck.....and don't add to the trashy PMC servers i keep seeing on the front page... (if you don't know what your doing.....don't do it)

This seems like a good idea, but I'm confused as to why redstone comes before coal. Coal is much easier to find and mine, and redstone has hundreds of uses.

well Redstone is extremely common almost as common as coal however it when you break it, it drops 2-4 Redstone per block making it easy to obtain a stack of Redstone in about two separate ore veins. coal on the other hand per ore vein may have about 5-20 depending on how many veins are attached. Understand? and Redstone is easy to get, all you need to do is run into a cave go far and BAM you start seeing Redstone and Lapis. In no way is Redstone hard to obtain. In fact have you ever ran out of coal??? yeah ALWAYS. have you ever ran out of Redstone? that's right bro never xD

Well, Redstone veins are typically two blocks, which drops about 8-10 redstone. Second, they require an iron pick to mine, as opposed to wood. And some of us never run out of redstone because we aren't redstone mechanics, who need tons of it. Finally, coal can be encountered at any depth, causing it to occur more than redstone.

8-10 Redstone around 16-20 in one vein, two veins is about 40 and if you don't use it at all then is must be less valuable then coal, which is used all the time and you always run out. Also even if you are making a TNT cannon or a Redstone door only about 25 Redstone is really needed and it doesn't burn out like coal being in your inventory forever. You answered your own question.

I meant 8-10 in a full vein, not each block.
