Having read the contest information, I decided to think carefully about what I would talk about as a mod idea.
What I wanted to come up with is an idea which is simple, but would add some big improvements to minecraft without too much unnecessary additions...
My idea is,
IMPROVED PIG RIDING AND MOUNTS
Now, people are going to say, "something like that has already been done with various mods", but hear me out...
Ok, so you are in minecraft, with your stash of diamond, nether materials, etc. and you would now like to have some fun. You have a saddle, but a saddled pig doesn't really do much, and due to how rare saddles are, you don't want to waste it. Instead...
What does this do you ask, read on...
Ok, so this is some sort of saddle, so what does it do?
Ah, a pig, now for the good part...
The pig! What happened? Well, the idea is that on a website you could upload a skin for your pig, in the same way as for your character...
So this pig is my own special mount. It has a name, decided by the saddle, and has a skin from the minecraft website. Only I can ride it, and it has some cool features...
1. Pig armour
2. Perfect control, and carrots on sticks can be used for speed boosts.
3. Knight armour,
(can also be crafted with gold or diamond)
(can also be crafted with gold or diamond)
The helmet increases pig speed and looks cool (and the plume on the top is paintable like leather armour), the lance does more damage the faster you are moving, and the carrot lance also gives speed boosts.
4. Pig health is greater than usual pigs by far...
...but what do you do when it dies :(
5. Resurrection!
Using this egg, respawn your pig! (will also kill any already in existence). You need not mourn your loss for long :D
Of course the next stage in this mod would have to be...
FLYING MOUNTS
"But how" you ask, well...
You remember the original soul crystal, well, try crafting it like this instead...
(with a dragon egg :D)
Now, use it on a pig...
Yay, now to fly around the world of minecraft forever :)

If someone has the modding skills, I would love them to make it. I don't know how to do it myself though...

-Yeah, I think it had to be a armor just for the pigs, not the player armor.
-Could be only one minute, since crafting a fire charge gives you 3 of them. Then people would have a reason to craft fire charges in survival :D
Yeah, 1 minute per fire charge seems good :D
Thanks for the ideas and stuff
One problem:
Someone could just build the "Resurrection Egg" and use that to spawn a pig without using the original recipe for the saddle. This would be true unless you added code to say that if a pig had already existed, then spawn a pig when used.
