Ok, I'm fed up of telling people now. All the time. On chat. I made a previous rant about posting in the wrong place, but there are other problems spamming up the chat which I wish to address as a warning to all. Now first, I've noticed one big problem: Server problems. Different to posting IPs or asking someone to come on your server, but people asking mods and members of staff to ban someone over some sort of server dispute. To all of you, I say THIS: On PMC, Chat AND forums, we don't deal with server issues. They should be dealt with in the SERVER.

Griefing, abusive admins, disrespectful people? These are all server related, and we have no power against it. For example, I've seen people come on chat reporting someone because they were 'banned for no reason' for those, the path should be obvious. Don't go on the server. If there is some idiotic owner, just don't join. Look elsewhere. Don't create hate posts or blogs, just because they annoyed you. They'll only get you in trouble.

Now, a more CHAT related problem. Respect, well lack of it. People on chat expect respect? Well, it's like in real life. To gain respect, give other respect. Don't go trolling them, spamming against them or just starting arguments then complain that it's someone else's fault. I've seen many examples of this, which have lead to bans. Don't let a simple, petty argument, turn into a flame war. It will get you in trouble, trust me.

Another subject. SPAM. Spam is very annoying. There are MANY types of spam. Icon spam. Posting a single letter or post several times. Server spam. Well, to all of you planning to use chat I give this advice. Don't spam AT all. It ruins chats for others, with pointless bits of conversation, like randomly posting a smiley 10 times and posting {Url} several times. It's plain annoying.

A final piece of advise to all. Especially those who are new. I've seen many come on chat, saying 'I'm new' then posting an IP, or spam. If you're new, check out the rules. It's common sense surely? Learn your way around the site. You will keep out of trouble if you follow the guidelines set out by the staff, to reduce these pointless and annoying posts. Finally, check out the chat page, before you ask 'where is the server hall?' or 'what do the yellow names mean?'. LOOKING at the page SHOULD answer all questions. It's simple.

Thanks for reading.

Nothing I haven't heard before, but well addressed :) I suppose my only question is if people can't spam, since it has such a broad definition, then what other methods can they use to become noticed?

What I mean by noticed, is to be recognised. The main reason why people spam is that they feel unappreciated, that their work deserves more recondition. I already know that you find spam annoying, as do I. But my question was is there any alternative to becoming noticed? If you cant spam, what else can you do to attract people to your work?

You can get noticed by following rules. 1 link per 10 minutes, becoming a chat regular. Don't expect people who've known you for 3 seconds to check your work. Become popular, start conversations, become well known. Spam gets you no-where

I agree that you can get noticed by following rules, people who have become popular without breaking them are an example of that. "1 link per 10 minutes"- do you mean post something every 10 minuets!? Spam can provide something, even though the possibility's are very slim. "Become popular" and "Become well known" aren't suggestions, their statements. Starting a conversation will certainly gain you some recondition, providing people are actually interested. You might even get the same results from spamming as you do start a conversation, sure there's no interaction, but a minority will certainly view what's being spammed.

Really? This is about Breaking the rules. You slightly sound like you are PROMOTING spam. Excuse me if I've misunderstood but... People shoudln't just spam. Its to teh annoyance of others, And logs up chat. Sure, people may see it, but It gets you BAD attention, and less respect.

Lol, no I don't support spam. I understand that the blogs general theme is to remind people of the rules, but I was just trying to be realistic. Surely you know that spam will never stop. My question was an alternative solution to this problem, because I would be surprised if spammers would stop just because of this blog post. The solution to this problem isn't re-addressing or reporting it, its finding a new way to communicate. I've already stated why people spam, and until PMC undergoes a radical new layout, it will still continue.
