It's easy,you need to make this:

Dig a 1 block down.9 blocks on that(to get square) way results  something like this [_] 

Now in a middle of hole place mushroom (red if you want house) and put 9 grass blocks (8 blocks up of a hole) to get square like in hole now place bone meal on mushroom and see what you get!
