Brothers
A PTSD Poem
Both of them shipped out today
Had been playing soldiers since they were eight
Four years pass, and one's six feet under
In a grave
The other, well he's not to be found either
Unless you're talking a lifeless shell of what he used to be
Once upon a time, happy family
He's disappeared to PTSD
And his struggle lives on
He's found friends with a bottle, and a headstone
Life's tough for his buddies too, they know what it's like
To be what he's been through
He refuses meds
Thoughts on replay in his head
But there is a light
He put his faith in one thing
Mans best friend, tried and true
Doesn't care what you've been through
He just loves you, for you
He can't judge you by the color of your skin
Or by the shrapnel in your arm
Because to him, life just goes on
Trained to help you cope
Learn the ropes
Regain your confidence and not to worry
So what if he's a tad bit furry
He's your new best friend
You could even say
That he's like a...
