Changing the Entire Minecraft Economy to Emeralds

With 1.3 will come Emeralds. The main purpose of these is to be currency. This is an amazing addition, IMO.
But I wonder, with all the servers using slimeballs and gold ingots as currency, will they switch to Emeralds just so they are using the official Minecraft currency? I have played on a server that uses slimes, and I think it would seriously suck if suddenly, the slimeballs became next to worthless. This concept just crossed my mind as I was going to upload my texture pack. As you can see, I got sidetracked. I'm literally just rambling at this point.
I thought the forum was for technical issue questions. Maybe I'm wrong.
