Hi everyone. I usually browse through the Support Forums and thought I should make an article about some general troubleshooting steps you can do if you experience issues here on the site prior to making a forum post.
This can relate to upload issues, pages displaying distorted, general usability of the site. Keep in mind, this is a general guide, not a fix for every issue.
Disclaimer: I am not liable for any damages you may experience as a result of any changes you make to your Internet browser
settings, including but not limited to, special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Step 1: Clear your cache for the page.
Press Ctrl + F5: Pressing only F5 will give you a refresh of the page. But if some content changed, it may not retrieve the new data from the web-page. Ctrl + F5 abandons the cache for only that web-page and grabs a fresh copy from the server. This function is for all major Internet browsers.
Still having issues? On to the next step..
Step 2: Clear cache and cookies.
In Internet Explorer go to:
- Tools > Internet Options. (If you don't see "Tools", then click ALT on your keyboard to bring up the classic menu bar temporarily)
- Then click "Delete" under browsing history.
- Only mark "Files" and "Cookies" for deletion then click OK to continue with the delete.
- Restart Internet Explorer.
In Firefox go to:
- Firefox Icon > Preferences > Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced Tab.
- In the lower tabs, select "Network".
- Click "Clear Now" next to Cached Web Content.
In Google Chrome go to:
- Wrench icon > Tools > Clear browsing data...
- Set 'Obliterate the following items from: the beginning of time'.
- Select 'Empty the cache' and 'Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data'.
- Click 'Clear browsing data'.
Still having issues? Don't give up yet. On to the next step..
Step 3: Adjust browser settings.
In Internet Explorer go to:
- Tools > Internet Options.
- Then click on your Privacy Tab.
- Click Advanced above the Pop-up Blocker settings.
- If not checked, check the option for "Override automatic cookie handling".
- You should see other options open up. Leave "First-party Cookies" and "Third-party Cookies" as default which is "Accept".
- Check the check-box for "Always allow session cookies".
- Click OK, then OK again to exit out of the browser settings menu.
- Restart Internet Explorer.
In Firefox go to:
- Firefox Icon > Preferences > Preferences.
- Click on the Privacy Tab.
- Next to "Firefox will", drop down the pick-list and select "Use custom settings for history".
- You'll see a list of options appear: Be sure that these options are selected:
- Accept cookies from sites [Checked]
- Accept third-party cookies [Checked]
- Keep until: "they expire"
- Note: Check in "Exceptions" and make sure planetminecraft is not on the list
- Restart Firefox.
In Google Chrome go to:
- Wrench icon > Settings > Show Advanced Settings (at the very bottom of the first page)
- Under 'Privacy' click 'Content Settings.
- Make sure that 'Allow local data to be set' is clicked.
Still having issues? Fffuuuu. On to the next step..
Step 4: Run with no add-ons.
For Internet Explorer:
On your keyboard, press the Window key followed by the R key:
- Type in "iexplore.exe -extoff" without quotations and press Enter.
Alternate path: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (no add-ons).
For Firefox:
On your keyboard, press the Window key followed by the R key:
- Type in "firefox -safe-mode" without quotations and press Enter.
For Google Chrome:
On your keyboard, press the Window key followed by the R key:
- Type in "chrome.exe --disable-extensions" without quotations and press Enter.
Typically this will resolve a conflict with a web-page and an add-on that you may have potentially installed for your browser. If this resolves your issue, then you may want to disable all of your add-ons and re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit.
I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it. Give it a diamond if you feel it's helped you in any way.
Thanks.
