When Steve went on his adventure for something new, he never imagined he would find this. The Lost Kingdom of the Dragons.

When he first caught sight of it all he could see was strange plants and many colors lining the coast, with a looming mountain in the distance. He got closer and realized that laying on the beach was a huge, lapis-colored dragon, bigger than the Ender Dragon. He had read all the Minecraft books, so a dragon was the last thing Steve expected to see in the middle of the Overworld. He whipped out his diamond sword with a swish. Even though it was close to breaking from the many adventures he had experienced over the years, it gave him comfort to know he had some protection. Steering the boat closer to the dragon, he began going over ways to kill it. Suddenly the dragon looked up. Steve froze. The dragon breathed out tiny puffs of blue steam from it nostrils and it began sniffing. Its head turned toward Steve and spotted him. It opened its mouth and Steve held up his tattered shield up, expecting to be burned to a crisp. Instead a loud voice, definitely female, reached his ears. "Player! What are you doing in the land of the dragons without any warning? Lax is glad to see someone, but Lax is wondering why you have arrived." Steve stayed still, shocked beyond belief. The dragon had talked. The dragon, apparently named Lax, called out again, "Player! State your reasons to the Guard of the Coast!" Steve gathered his courage and looked up. "My name is Steve" he called out. "I was exploring the ocean and happened upon here. Can you tell me exactly where I am?" Lax sighed, muttering something, and said "You are on the edge of the Kingdom Of The Coastal Dragons. I am the current Guard of the Coast. Please sail closer as my voice tires of shouting." In his head Steve briefly went over the pros and cons of meeting a dragon, but his stomach decided for him. "Grrmmmbl" went his stomach, and he sighed, defeated.

He stared ahead, carefully steering his boat, and landed. He stared up the looming figure of Lax and realized that she wasn't really bigger than the Ender Dragon; she just looked like that from far away (and his fear probably helped, too). In reality she was quite a bit smaller. He gulped and said "Hello... I have never heard of this place. Are there more dragon kingdoms?" He was secretly hoping yes, this adventure was turning out to be even more exciting than he hoped. Lax stared at him in disbelief, and said "Of course there are more dragon kingdoms! Have you lived under a rock your entire life? There are 7 tribes, Coastal, Fire, Earth, Mountain, Cavern, Ocean and Shadow. We each have a King or Queen, except for the Cavern Tribe. They... have no leader. Their last King died 3 season-turns ago and they have been fighting amongst themselves ever since," she said. Steve stared at her even more, long and hard. "S-seven d-dragon tribes?" he spluttered. "That's impossible! Where I come from the only dragon is the Ender Dragon, and he is less than friendly to players." Realizing he still was holding his sword and that might seem threatening, he tucked it back into his inventory. When he looked up, Lax was staring at him like he wasn’t what she thought he was, maybe that he was a girl or perhaps a pig and not a player at all. She flared her wings open, whispered something under her breath that Steve swore was “Old Lander. Warn…”, and launched herself into the sky, flying at double the speed of a creative player down the coast. Feeling abandoned and confused by Lax’s weird behavior, Steve sat down in his boat, which he had pulled up on shore. Looking up and seeing that it was almost nightfall and seeing no trees about (and sadly no food), he laid down and hoped that no monsters spawned in the land of the dragons.

Far away, Lax was hurtling towards the Coastal Place, a magnificent work of driftwood, quartz, and sea glass, with the intent of warning Queen Morize of the Old Lander that had appeared on their shores. That is what Lax felt at that moment. She arrived and shouted her introduction quickly to the guards: “Coast Guard Lax, urgent news for the Queen!” The guards saw her panic and quickly ushered her in. Queen Morize heard the noise and turned her head, interested. Lax, who was out of breath, quickly told the queen her news “I was watching the coast when a player in a boat appeared. I called out to him and we conversed for a minute. He came to the shore and asked about the tribes, then told me that where he comes from, one dragon lives. The Ender Dragon.” Every dragon in the room crouched at the name, frightened. “I realized what he was, and flew to you at once.” The queen looked at her, shocked. Then, mustering her courage, she said “We must fly to him and retrieve him at once. Who knows what will happen once the mobs come out.” Lax agreed and they started the flight back to Steve.
Meanwhile, Steve was having a hard time sleeping He kept seeing shadows in the bushes and once heard the flap of wings, but it wasn’t a dragon. He had drifted off when he heard a sound he had sincerely hoped he wouldn’t hear. The rattle of skeleton bones. It got closer, then a faint sound reached his ears and the rattling sound faded. He looked up to see what had cause the sound. He saw four dragons, all similarly colored to Lax, one of them actually Lax. One wore a sea glass necklace, two held spears, and one wore a nervous face. Guess which one is Lax? They landed, then the one with the necklace spoke to him, saying “My name is Queen Morize, queen of the Coastal Dragons. Lax tells me you are from the Old Lands. She says you speak of the Ender Dragon.” Everyone shuddered. “Is this true? If so, why have you come here?” Steve gulped and thought before he answered, “I do not know of these ‘Old Lands’, but yes, I have heard of the Ender Dragon. He rules the End and sends out his minions, the endermen, to do his evil bidding. Many dream of killing him, but none have succeeded. His purple fire and tendency to destroy blocks instantly kill most. Or the endermen tear you limb from limb. Either way, you die. I have dreamed of it, but I dream of adventure more. So I set out in this boat to explore. As you know, I happened upon this island, Lax on it, and the rest is history." The dragons stood still, shocked and maybe horrified by his tale. Then the Queen made a gesture with her tail to the spear-carrying dragons, who nodded. There was a flurry of movement and everything went black for Steve

. He woke up with a dull headache and blue and gray swimming in front of him. He blinked furiously and his vision cleared. In front of him was Lax, holding a blue-green strip of seaweed and her normal nervous expression. Behind her were smooth gray walls and sandy pits in the ground, big enough for a dragon. He sat up and looked around. He saw no-one but Lax in what seemed to Steve like a dragon hospital. He glanced down and saw to his relief that he was lying on a woolen bed fit for players. Lax's voice cut into his observations: "Steve? I'm sorry about this, but Morize had Rijo hit you in the head with his tail. She thought it would be safer if you did not know where the Coastal Palace is located, since she wanted to bring you here. Seriously though, do you really not know why all the dragons left?" Steve waited for his anger to cool (would you be angry if someone you trusted knocked you out?) before answering, "As I told you, in my land one dragon exists. That how it has always been, with no other dragons mentioned in any book or scroll in Minecraftia. So no, I do not know why your kind fled the land. Does it involve the Ender Dragon?" Lax mutely nodded, staring at the ground, and Steve caught terror and grief flashing through her face. "100 player years ago, 90 before I hatched, a dark evil invaded the old dragon lands. It made a home in the End but continually sent minions to punish us for whatever ridiculous law it had made up recently. We lived under its reign for 30 years, then something happened that even today we refer to as 'The Final Terror'." She paused, staring at the ground. "The evil sent a large dragon to terrorize us, calling it The Ender Dragon. It burned everything and killed many of us. It was a mindless beast sent with one mission: Punish the dragons. It did this well for 3 years, then the dragons started fleeing. One of our best mappers had found proof of a landmass far to the east, across the ocean. He was convinced it was our only hope, and directed others to it. We all began to flee, taking almost nothing. We settled in the new land well, finding territories well suited to our tribes. A long section of coastal beaches and forests for us, a volcanic area for Fire, heavily forested areas for Earth, high mountain ranges for Mountain, large caves underneath them for Cavern, a nearby coral reef for Ocean, and who knows for the Shadow Dragons." She stopped, looking at him. "The Shadow Dragons look very similar to the Ender Dragon and feel shamed because of it. After the move they went into hiding and any shadow dragon sightings are extremely rare."

Steve sucked in a breath. That had been a lot. 100 years ago? No wonder the scrolls didn't mention this. They weren't the best at ancient history to be honest. "So... why am I a strange sight again?" Lax looked directly into his eyes. "Because it is our fear that anything from the Old Lands somehow carries the Evil within them, even if they do not know it. The reason why I did not think you were an Old Lander at once was the fact that we have small colonies of players scattered across the island, which is really a continent, so I thought you were a scout for one of those. Once I realized it I flew quickly to Queen Morize and told her. By the way, eat this seaweed. I was supposed to give it to you earlier but that question... anyways, it will help with the headache." Steve slowly nodded. His headache had been getting worse as she talked. He took it and quickly chewed and swallowed, then finding a glass of water by his bed, taking a gulped it down. His throbbing head began to clear and he sighed a sigh of relief. Lax asked him another question. "When will you be returning home? There are ways to go back, you know." Her eyes seemed to say that she didn't really want him to leave. Steve thought about it. All that was waiting at home was his small wooden house with its chests full of things. World Wide Explorer he might be, but he never befriended any animals for fear they would die on his next trip. He also wanted to meet all of these dragons, and maybe even some players! He looked up at Lax. "I wish to stay." His world seemed to get 5 times brighter when Lax threw her head up and spurted some blue fire flecked with white into the air. "I knew it," she said, smiling a sweet dragon smile at him. "Now, would you like to meet our head player nurse?" Something in her voice suggested she was leading him towards something... "Sure," he answered.

"Hi," a cheerful voice greeted him. He looked over and saw a girl his age with red hair in a ponytail dressed in a nurse's uniform. Lax grinned at him and pushed him towards the girl. "My name is Alex. What's yours?"

*

5 years later Steve and Alex marry in the glory that is the Coastal Throne Room. Lax finds the dragon of her dreams, an Ocean Dragon named Cerulean. They receive news that a powerful player has killed the Ender Dragon, a player named Notch. The dragons rejoice, but decide to stay in their new home. Everything is peaceful, and everyone will live Happily Ever After. Or will they? I hope you enjoyed, as this took me a while to write.

Nice story, and this explains where the other dragons went and why they were only mentioned once.
