Soooo my last skin I went about it differently....much different from how I have ever done it before.
NOTICE: this is NOT a tutorial!! This is to just show a glimspe as to how I start my skins, to maybe give others ideas, but it is NOT a tutorial.
First I open up my Paint Tool SAI and open up a base I have.
Then I start a rough sketch in red
Here I'll be showing my sketch process for my latest skin: Modern Archer *Oblivion's Contest
I didn't like this idea at all, I was rushing a lot since I became a participant pretty late and I work a lot now so I don't have a lot of time.
So then I created a new sketch, one I liked a lot and decided to keep ^-^
Usually I draw the back as well but again, I was rushing >.<
Then I draw the linework and add the flat colors
After that I add the shadows so that way I know how to shade
As you can see I make sure I made my light source apparent
now I may have skipped a few parts because I messed around with several different programs before I finally decided how I like to shade
This is the result:
after that I decided the colors didn't transfer as well onto the actual skin, so I do several variations before I become happy with atleast 3
After I created some variations I chose my 3 favorite and worked on them from there...
But obviously in the end the one I chose to use was number 6
^-^
Then I went ahead and changed the color of the hair from my original sketch to see how it would look, and I actually love it ^-^
*Hopefully if I make it to the next round I'll be able to make a video on that skin, but we'll see! If not a video will be very soon ^-^
