you can't get chain armor using legit, you have to either have a mod, or have a hack which you can give yourself items to be able to get fire. Not flint and steel, just fire.

There is a mod where you can craft chain which you use for chainmail armor. Just dont remember the name of it. Search for chainmail mod or something.

You can use the mod- Single Players Commands or you can get oped on a server and just spawn some. I like the server idea better ;)

without cheating to obtain fire i don't think it's possible to make chain mail, sorry. without TMI or item spawning there's no way

No it's invincible, sorry. it just looks different is all.
i just tested it,
20 block fall
diamond 1/2 dmg
iron 1 dmg
gold 2 dmg
chainmail 2 dmg
leather 4 dmg

i don't like chain anyways... it doesn't usually look good. and it's worse than iron
