Hey great tut, but one question.. I want to have my motd central, but when I put a few spaces it sets it back automatically after a server restart. Is there a code for the spacer aswell?

Yes, It is!!
I want to have multiple color codes at once, but if I used § or \u00a76 then it just wouldn't work. I need answers and very fast.   -from some dude from a video game.

example: \u00A73 \u00A7l  PVP makes the word PVP in blue and bold, so its <color code> then <format> (bold, underline, etc)
Nevermind. Thanks btw! I love my new motd now.
Do I put them directly next to eachother or a spawce inbetween them?
§ <-use this its better then \u00A7\

Go to your server files, you should see a file called server.properties. Open it, there should be an MOTD= option. fill it out.

Example:

MOTD=u00A7aMerry Christmas!

Sets the message of the day to merry christmas in light green.

That's part of a plugin, essentials and colored signs... you usually type & before a number, like &5hello! Would display "hello!" but in dark purple.

You can have colored names from plugins. EVERY server has colored names. To do this in Vanilla, it requires teams. Do /scoreboard for help with se

If you accually payed attention it is &6, &5, and &4 just instead of & it is u0047 example; u00476=&6, u00475=&5, and u00474=&4

Those are essentials color nodes, which are used in-game. I would like it if they could just use essentials color codes but then non essentials servers couldn't color their motd

no, if they recode it, we could all. Those &1 &2 &3, etc. are not essentials they are vanilla minecraft. example, use it on a sign what happens? That's just the way it is. We just have to live with it. I think it's no big deal.
 • ArmanA145

Then they should just recode it, it would be 100% easier for people to color MOTD's and less confusing

The way that the Minecraft server (vanilla and Bukkit) reads its files probably can't handle reading thesection symbols themselves, (which is what it really is; & is used in-game because, well, everyone has & on their keyboards, but I don't know of anyone who has the section symbol), but it does recognize their ID, if you will, which is u000A7.

NOTE: PMC is derping when I try to paste the section symbol, but here goes (ignore the fancy-looking A):

§
Good Idea.
