How to make a good minecraft server?

Many people wonder, now you found the answer
Greetings,
I assume as you're reading this blog/guide you're having some trouble finding members for your server, am I right?
Well here are some easy-to-follow steps to guide your path! :)
1) Make your server understandable
What use is a server if players can't find a head or tail in where they need to go, or what they need to do?
Make it easy to access even as a new minecraft player.. Make a tutorial run, make it as "exciting" as possible.
That will at least help people get a feel of what your server is like
2) Friendly Admins
You WILL need friendly admins, if the admins on your server are douche-bags to your players or generally treat your players with disrespect, They won't come back. So make sure to have a friendly and open-minded admin-staff.
3) Be Unique!
Okay so there's a million servers out there doing the exact same thing, why should they choose yours ahead of the competition? You see, that's where the ability to create instead of recreate comes in handy, You need to be unique, for instance you could try and recreate something big which haven't been made in minecraft before.
For example, on my server I'm currently recreating Icecrown from world of warcraft, Imperial city from Oblivion and even the old Varrock from Runescape. Some of these have been made before, but I do it my way, and most of them are 1:1 which makes them unique from the small scaled projects. You could also make your server completely different from others by making it all happen in space? what do I know? use your imagination and you'll go far ;)
4) Don't leave the server unattended
If you need to go on a holiday or something else, Do NOT leave the server without administration, that might cause problems to grow and stack up and then YOU are the one to solve all of the problems when you get back
5) Connect with your players
What a lot of new minecraft servers do wrong, is that they are just minding their own business trying to make something cool for the players, but they aren't paying much attention to the players themselves. This is BAD.
Pay attention to what your user-base wants, do events with them and just have fun... That is after all what the game is all about, right?
