First of all I wan't to say thank you for taking a look at my blog!
This tutorial is for Windows.(Sorry Mac/Linux users D:)
If your Minecraft server has problems being set up please let me know in the comments section!

Introduction:
There are pros and cons with setting up a server this way
Pro(s): 1. Setting it up is 100% free.
2. It is completely controlled by you.
Con(s): 1. The server will only stay up if you keep your server.exe(Explained later) open.
2. The server might be laggy depending on your internet connection.

Instructions:
1.Acquiring the files
go to Minecraft.net/download and download the latest server.EXE
tumblr_mvoHJVasdgcso_png

Create a folder on your desktop, name it anything. (not to be taken literally :P)
Simply place the server.exe into the folder and run it once, you will have some files auto downloaded into the folder once you run it.

Port Forwarding:
This is the part most people get stuck on.
Go to run(Push The home button + R) and type in "cmd"
While in cmd type in "ipconfig". Than scroll up till you see your default gate way
It should look something like this: (Without all thecensorshipand red lines)
tumblr_mvosqWKTsdgcso_png

When you have found your default gateway go to your internet browser and in the address bar
type that in.(Most of the time it is 192.168.1.1 but they can vary.)

After you do that it will request a username and password. If you do not know what they are don't worry, because unless someone changed the settings; the username is "admin" and the password is "password". If this works, skip the next green words. If you are reading this part that means the username and password did not work(or you were curious what these green words said). All you have to do is ask who ever you are living with(being your Mom, Dad, Aunt, Pet Rat, or anybody else) what the password is. If none of them know you can also reset the router. There is a button on routers that resets the router password( This will not effect the internet password but the ROUTER password) Make sure to hold the button for at least 20-30 seconds. Than retry the username and password.

Once you get the username and password correct it will lead you to a certain screen. Now, this screen will be different depending on your router, but should be more or less the same. You are going to go to the section where is says "Port Forwarding" or something like that.(I cannot provide pictures as they will not be much help for people with different routers.) It will ask for a port( if it asks for an External one and Internal one set them both the same) set the port to 25565. This is the default port for Minecraft. Also set the Protocol to UDP and TCP( I really hope you understand what I mean.) Set the To IP Address to your ipV4 Address. Than just save the changes.
Image
(My Port forwarding screen)

Finishing Up:
After this you are pretty much done! Just run the server.exe in your desktop folder. But you might be thinking what is the ip to my server? That's easy, just go to Google.com and search "what is my ip". Google will say "Your public IP address is " copy your ip and add :25565 so it will look like "34.49.54.939:25565"(This is not a real IP)

Thanks for reading my tutorial blog and I hope it helped! If you still have problems please leave a comment below. I'll be sure to read it. ;)

I have the same router system (or whatever) as you, but when I put the External and Internal with the same number, when I click "Save Settings" It says "Port overlap occurred! Please change your entry." Did I do something wrong?

If the username is not "admin" and the password is not "password" than your Mom or Dad probably changed the settings. Just ask them for the password. If they do not know it you could reset your router password (not the internet password) by holding the reset button in for about 30 seconds. Hope this helped. :)

permissions.yml is part of bukkit. if you want permissions on a vannila server simply type "/op <yourname>" in the console (The minecraft_server.exe). Hope this helped. :)

First you will have to op yourself. Go in your minecraft_server.exe and type /op . Than you can /op others from minecraft. If you do not want them to be able to use the commands anymore you can do /deop . Hope this helped. :)

ok so if i tried this i would be able to set it up as a server on pmc (this website) and other people would join no problem or is there something to it like getting mcprohosting (or a host for that)

titanzlongshot
Level 39
Artisan Taco
February 16, 2014, 12:49 pm

Yep, if you did this you could set it up on PMC and people could join. And no you don't need to get another host like mcprohosting because you are the host. But, the problem is that you would have to have your computer on and your minecraft_server.exe running for the server to stay up. Hope this helped. :)

When you join you can type "localhost" instead of an IP. But when your friends join they need the IP. So make sure they are using the correct IP address and the port right after separated with a colon (":"). Hope this helped.

Also for the Cisco default gateway is "192.168.12.1" I think... but it can vary. Hope this helped

That would mean that is it not the correct username and password. If it is not "Admin" for the username and "password" for the password. Ask your Mom or Dad what the password is. Hope this helped.

1) Run is a program that can launch other programs when typing in their name. 2) Home + R is just a shortcut to get to run. (Pushing the Home Button and the "R" key at the same time).

I'm having trouble getting my server set up. I have everything downloaded, started the minecraft_server.1.7.4, changed the name, added the
@echo off

from notepad into the folder containing everything else, and the server log is still blank? Also, i tried to downgrade everything back to 1.6.2, had everything completely set up, then when i started the server, it said it failed to pair with the port or something like that..? Help would be greatly appreciated, since i am rather new to this, i've been living off Hamachi for a while. :)

1) For the blank console, make sure that "minecraft_server.x.x.x.jar" in the code line (java -Xmx3G -Xms2G -jar minecraft_server.x.x.x.jar nogui) has the same as the name of the minecraft_server.x.x.x.jar in your server folder.

For the Port pair failing make sure that in your server.properties that the server port is the same as the one you set up while port forwarding.[

Hope this helped. :)

1) When you type in "ipconfig" in command prompt you should be able to scroll up and see your IPV4 address.

2) To fix where it is complete white, rename minecraft_server.1.7.4.exe(Or whatever version it is) to minecraft_server.jar than go to notepad and type this:

@echo off
java -Xmx3G -Xms2G -jar minecraft_server.1.7.4.jar nogui

After you write that in notepad save it in your server folder and name it "launch.bat"
When you want to start your server click on launch.bat to start your server.

I want it to be a public server, so I was testing it out with my friends to see if it'd work, but for some reason it either keeps pinging on them or it says "can't connect to server".
