How to start a successful Minecraft  server.

Yes, we all want a place where we are boss because the other server owners won't fall for our outdated "I'm from
Planetminecraft" trick. But it ain't easy, join me as I tell you how to start a successful Minecraft server.

Step 1 An Idea!- Well, you can't just start up a server with no aim, goal or pourpose. Your going to have to have an idea. But it can't be to common, for example if you want a mini game server, select hard-to-find mini games or custom, not 'Block Hunt' or 'Paint Ball' those can be found else where like on mineplex or the hive and if it can be found else where your players would want to play on a more popular server, because they have more players to compete agiainst.

Step 2 A Server Hoster!- Once you got an idea your  server is going to need someone to host it, but it's expenisve. I recommend using Triangle.gs that gives you a free 24/7 server (forever) with 512MB of ram it can be found here. 

Step 3 A good Name an IP!- Now this might seem like something easy, right? Wrong, it's important to have a easy-to-remeber name or else they may think your server is nooby. For example if you named it TNTCraft it sounds more like a name for a mod rather then a server and it sounds like the guy who named it was drunk. As for the IP you would like to have a custom ip for example play.universemc.com (if your using triangle.gs you have to upgrade to $3.00 a month to get this feature). The IP must be easy to remember or the player might forget the IP, for example play.bestserverever.aimtogame.co.uk.wtfdude is a bit hard to remember right? So instead of that why not shorten it like play.bestserverver.com you shall  layers forgeting your IP (lost players).

Step 4 Choose A Good Server Icon!- See that image next to the server's name and motd. That's called "a server image". When you add yours you want to make sure it's good I recommend using paint.net a free photo editing program, for this job. When you are finished make sure it's not too cluttered or busy, because that looks un-professinal. To upload your image resize it in any photo editing program to 64x64, rename it to server-image.png and put it in your server folder (Most online hosts use FTP).

Step 5 Start a fourm!- Don't launch it yet! You need a fourms for reporting, talking, applications, attracting players. and all that jazz. DO NOT USE ENJIN UNLESS YOU HAVE FULL VERSION. Enjin looks very un-proffesinal and on the free verison the "default" theme looks like cr*p.  Instead use anything else you can find, but  iClanWebsites is a good one.

Step 6 Launch ,Set Up a MOTD, And Plugins!- Now you can launch, but you need a MOTD! Use this symbol § [INSERT NUMBER/ LETTER HERE] (by copying and pasting it) and find the number and letters you need here. Think of a good MOTD that describes your server in a nutshell for example I would right: UNIVERSE MC Hardcore, Paintball and Skyblock.
That kind of MOTD DO NOT WRITE: 1.8.3 24/7 JOIN NOW. That just makes your server look like it's despreate for players, even if you are you don't need to make it public. Setting up plugins is fairly simple just download and move to your plugins folder located in your server folder!

 
Step 7 Spread The Word And Get Players!- Great going! Your server's up but it's missing players! DO NOT GO TO OTHER SERVERS AND ADVERTISE YOURS IT WILL GIVE YOUR SERVER A BAD REPUTATION. There are many ways to "spread the word" the most easiest is advertising on websites, but buying ad space is a bit expensive but if your going for it I recommend advertising on the Minecraft Fourms or here on Planet Minecraft since nearly all of the vistors have minecraft. If your going the free way you might as well talk about your server on fourms like Mineplex's (of course in the right section) to
attract attention. You could also create a YouTube account and add trailers of your server on to it.

Step 8 Get Some Admins!- Someone's gotta look after your server when your not on, let's make that some people. Now this is the tricky part you will O.P your friends, but most of them are in the same timezone, O.P other server owners or some people with O.P / Mod experince in diffrent timezones to help you on your journey to a successful Minecraft server!

Step 9 Set Up Ranks!- Setting up ranks is fairly complicated, search U.on Google because it's abit long to fit in here.

Step 10 Be a Good Pet [Owner!- Make sure you log on regularly and talk with your players, get engaged in the community and always (not 24/7 duh..) be there until the end (get it the dimension end?)

Step 11 It's Up To You!- You are ready! Take what you have learned to the real world impress people, because you never know if your server could be the next 'Mineplex'.
