"Stay boy", my Master told me. We were at the entrance to a dark cave. I could see the monsters roaming deep inside, but they didn't dare venture out of the cave and into the sunlight. My Master needed to enter to retrieve materials that he could only find deep in the caves so that he could make armor and weapons for the night, as well as gather coal so that we could make torches to keep the night at bay, as our supply had run out yesterday.
My Master cautiously entered the cave. I saw the monsters turn to face him, they began to walk toward him, their desire to harm overwhelming their desire to live. I could tell he was quickly observing the area; finding the weak point of the mass of monsters heading for him. I saw him nod his head as he found it. He said "I'll be right back boy", and screamed a war cry as he charged for the thickening blob of monsters. I watched him beat them back, his sword swinging in all directions. Then it broke. He quickly drew his bow and became a storm of arrows. But it wasn't enough. The monsters converged on him, and brought him down like a helpless child.
My Master had told me to stay. And so I did. He had told me that he would be back, but he never was. Yet, he had to told me to stay. And so I stayed. I stayed, and waited for my Master to come out, give me some bones he had found like he always did, and bring me back home with him.
But he didn't. He never came out.
