The Interview:

Could I interview you? For a blog =3?

Sure thing.

Cool. What do you think is unique about being a Moderator?

You have a unique position to help direct the future of the site as well as helping it in its current state - you can deal with issues such as stolen content or spam and help make PMC a more enjoyable environment for fellow minecrafters to use. Also - you get a cool yellow name ;)

=D So what do you think makes PMC popular?

The community and ease of navigation stand out to me - PMC is an amazing place to show off your creations in Minecraft whether it be a project, skin, texturepack, mod or even an article you had written.

The popular reel gives newcomers a great chance at popularity and coverage of their creations. Provided you spend enough time on your submission and advertise it, you can get highlighted on the front page and respected 'what's hot' categories.

This allows people to comment & critique your project whilst also giving you exposure as a content creator, in time you can build up your subscribers and forge a name for yourself in the community.

PMC chat is also a great function that allows members to socialise and meet new people. Again, this sense of community spirit combined with the ease in which you can share your submissions makes for a great Minecraft website.

Nice. And why do you think people are concerned about the pop-reel; what are your thoughts on it?

I think the popular-reel is seen as a big achievement, when people spend a lot of time on something, it's nice to have it appreciated. As I mentioned before, the popular reel is great for promoting new content creators on the site.

The reel has been tweaked so that it's easier to get on than it was before, I believe around 4-5 diamonds in an hour will get you on the what's hot section. however, however long you stay up there is related to how much continued interest your submission accrues. If people stop diamonding your submission, it begins to drop off the reel. This allows new people to come on the reel.

I think it's a fantastic addition for the PMC community, most site pick the featured submissions themselves. PMC is different in that it actually lets members 'vote' for which submissions they like - every diamond, comment and favourite you give helps promote that submission to the reel.

Nice. And now - what do you think PMC is lacking; what does it need?

I think the site could do with a bit of a revamp, Oliver_Frenchie noted how it looks a bit 1970's ;) A new dash of paint would be nice.

The forums also need a major reworking; but this is being worked on I believe.

As it is, the forums aren't the best place to post ideas - I think what would help is a unique notification system for the forums.
Members could choose an option to 'follow this thread' whereby they would receive notifications if someone posted a reply or a new comment. Right now, a thread can get lost in an endless sea of junk.

The PM notification could appear right next to your message/private message notifications at the top right of the page; this would encourage people to post on the forums and make them a much more enjoyable feature of the site.

New Super Moderators & Administrators would be cool - as it is, we only have 72 moderators (for a site of over 1million members) (http://www.planetminecraft.com/team) It can be hard to manage a site of this size when you have a centralized structure.

Decentralizing by creating new positions could help speed up site changes tremendously and free up time for introducing new features to the site.

Thanks. And now for you. What inspires you to create your magnificent builds?

A huge inspiration for me is Studio Ghibli, films such as 'Spirited Away' 'Howl's Moving Castle' & 'Laputa' all capture a sort of magical atmosphere that reminds me of my childhood. A sense of being in a sort of dreamworld.

I think what makes these films so special is a sort of blissful melancholy. (I realise that's an oxymoron) but it's the only way to describe it - a sort of blissful place where the sun shines, but also a lonely one. Whenever I'm inspired to do a build, I try to breathe life into it, imagine it as if it was lived in - probably the favourite build I've done was one from a year ago - 'Steamshire Farm' http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/steamshire-farm/

It was the start of a new steampunk towerhouse style and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Anything I build is an attempt to recapture the sense of wonder I had when I played minecraft for the first time - being able to build your own world where the only limit is your imagination.

I also live in the countryside of England, so there are plenty of rickety cottages, rolling hills and ancient castles - all of these inspire me.

2 games which capture this atmosphere for me are 'Final Fantasy VIII' & 'Fable II' - FFVIII was the first final fantasy game I'd played, and it influenced me quite a lot, the storyline was breathtaking and the scenery was amazing, it captured the ethereal feel of the studio ghibli films.

Fable II had a beautiful style to it, I loved the architecture and bloom effect to the game, it's probably why I love the texture-pack 'Summerfields' so much, as it was influenced by that game.

Ok. And who's your favourite skinner? What's your favourite Resource Pack?
My favourite skinners would probably be Vrezh or The_Soup - I really like their styles, plus The_Soup made my skin ;)

If I had to choose one resource pack it would be Summerfields - which is unfortunately discontinued :(

Otherwise, I love the John Smith continuations people have been doing - they're great fun to build with.

Lastly, can you give us a made up inspirational quote and saying?

A made up quote & saying?

I would advise people to nurture their imagination; with an active imagination, you can achieve anything. Become your own inspiration - the door to a thousand worlds is in your mind and you hold the key.

=O Mindblowing.

Haha :D Thank you for inviting me to do an interview, it's been fun.
