I'm back guys! I've been on a bit of a hiatus, but now I'm here for good! :D I was happy to see upon arrival to see another blog contest, so I decided to enter it for fun! Enjoy!

========

As I sat in the hospital bed, I scanned the faces of the other patients. They all seemed to be avoiding me after the news of my tumor broke out. Then again, I would do the same if I were in the same position. Suddenly, a young nurse appeared by my side with a smile on her face. She couldn't pretend to smile to save her life.

"Hey Steve! How's it going?"

"Well, Nurse. No difference from yesterday, but then again, no news is good news."

"Sure is! Now, I know you're resting, but the head doctor in the facility has requested an emergency meeting with you. You must go to his office within the hour."

What did the head doctor want me for? And why do I have to go so soon...?

========

His office walls were lined with his many certificates and dipolmas, and everything was perfect. Even the pencil holder was at a perfect 90 degree angle.

"You wanted to see me, Dr. Harlo?"

"Ah, yes, Mr. Krager, do take a seat."

I carefully took a seat and leaned forward.

"Mr. Krager, we would like to inform you that you have been chosen to take part in a US Military Experiement. Congratulations!"

His face said happiness. My face said that I wanted to smash his face.

"I'm dying."

His tone suddenly changed to something more professional.

"That is correct, Mr. Krager."

"And you expect me to be happy."

He straightened his tie and sat up in his chair. It was ovbious that he had prepared well for this talk.

"Mr. Krager, the US Military has developed a new piece of software for dying human beings. A simulated world that you are immersed in. A video game if you will. This technology has not yet been released to the public, nor is it known to the public."

"Okay, well what's so special about it. I can go to a store and buy a simulated world. What do I need the US Military for? And why do they need me?"

"Well, Mr Krager. You see, when I say immersed. I really mean immersed. You are INSIDE the video game."

I couldn't help but laugh at the notion.

"That's not even possible! Sure, I can feel like I'm in it, but I can't be really put into the environment!"

Dr. Harlo arose from his seat and beckoned me into the backroom. Reluctantly, I followed him through the door. I looked around, and saw a large caucastion man sitting in a seat, with an empty one beside him.

"Please take a seat, Mr. Krager."

I sat down and shook the hand of the man.

"This is Sargent Robert Patchers, a professor at the US Military and the developer of this software."

"Hello, John." Patchers said to me. His voice was slightly higher pitched then I expected. "I am so glad that you have the chance to test this. This software has been in testing for the last twenty years, but has faced countless problems. We have tested on other people, but..."

"But what?", I asked, raising my eyebrow.

"Well, doesn't matter! Anyway, we will ship you out to Washington tomorrow, where you will live inside our facilities. We will give you full details on what the simulation is abo..."

"NO!", I screamed out. He nearly fell off his chair.

"I'm sorry?"

"I have two weeks to live, and you want me to suddenly come with you, a man I don't know, to some random facility that I don't know to test some technology you won't tell me about!?"

"Please, Mr Krager, calm down. I know this is a distressing time for you, but shouting will not benefit either of us. If you must know beforehand, then fine."

I took a seat and began taking deep breathes.

"This software, Mr Krager, is designed to put your brain inside a simulation. The difference is that your brain will remain there, much like a software being backed up. You will not age inside the simulation, nor will you die. You will be technically immortal."

"But what about my real life body?"

"I'm afraid that your body will still take normal effects. Your tumor will eventually kill you, but you will be "backed-up" in the simulation. We will keep you there until we can find a suitable body for replacement."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Surely, this cannot be true... could it?

"We will ship you out to Washington tomorrow, Mr. Krager. Until then, farewell."

I looked around my small bedroom. It looked like many people stayed in the same room many years ago, but aren't alive now. Just the thought sent shivers down my spine. Suddenly, my door opened and a guard walked in.

"Mr. Krager, we're ready for you."

He half-ushered-half-dragged me from my cell, and brought me down some white corridors until we reached a door. On the glass panel bore a sign that read:

"NO ENTRY WITHOUT AUTHORISATION. TRESPASSERS WILL BE EXTERMINATED."

We entered. The only thing in the room was a white chair with some mechanism attached. He told me to sit down and strap the device on my head.

"When you enter the simulation, you will get the urge to blink. Make sure your eyes are open at all times. Otherwise, you may end up blind. Good luck, Mr Krager, and goodbye."

The last thing I saw was sparks flying from the command control panel in the opposite room. Then, nothing. Darkness surrounded me. No sound, no movement. Just... emptiness. I screamed out for help, but no sound came out of my mouth.

All of a sudden, I could hear ticking noises. As if somebody was behind me, clicking their fingers. The sound seemed to become louder and louder, stronger and stronger, until a light flashed in my eyes. I fell to the ground, clutching my head in my hands. Then, I opened my eyes. I could see cubes, lots of them. In fact, they were making the ground I was lying on. I slowly regained  my senses and arose. I looked around me, and then it hit me like a brick in the groin. The entire simulation was blocks. There were blocky trees around me, square blocks of dirt were laid out beneath my feet. Hell, even the grass was made of cubes.

I looked around me and saw what I would previously consider to be the devil. A man stood before me with a gigantic nose, and a long rectangular head. He only made grunting sounds, and ignored me despite my best efforts.

My name is Steve Krager. Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. I have been saved into this giant simulation. A world of my own. I shape the world. I am the creator and I am the destroyer. And I am alone.

Do you expect me to believe that everything in Minecraft was really just a video game the whole time? Wait a minute...
