Hey guys! If anyone ever criticizes you for playing too much Minecraft, just refer to this article. The truth is, Minecraft is educational. Here are the reasons why.

First of all, there is mining. This is probably the most obvious reason. Minecraft gives you knowledge of mining. It shows how you need certain tools to break certain ores, and how you need to smelt some of the ores to get ingots. You can learn that certain ores are deeper down than others, and you can understand the vaue of the materials. Some of these things an adult may know, but a kid could probably learn a thing or two.

Secondly, there is architecture involved. You can make amazing designs and creations in Minecraft. You learn what colors look good together, and how colors make the atmosphere. You learn that windows can make a big difference, balconies can make buildings more attractive and much more. The only I will criticize is the lack of physics, such as gravity, or that water flowing will run out.

The third reason Minecraft is educational is that there are basic survival tips included. If somehow one is in the middle of no where in a forest, Minecraft is very helpful. Tips such as that flint and steel start a fire could mean the difference between life and death. Or perhaps the fact that wood when burned makes charcoal. There are many, many more tips, but it take far too long to list them all.

Minecraft is basically an educational game with some unrealistic fun thrown in (like fighting monsters). So, there you go! Thanks for reading! If you liked this, please diamond. :D

This is like saying poker is educational and teaches children how to count.

While both completely this blog and that saying are completely true, it is much better to think of both as an actual game and not an education tool.

I can't really consider minecraft outright educational, personally.

Mining doesn't really teach you anything. Most of what one would learn from it is inaccurate. Emeralds aren't only found in mountains, iron can be found aboveground, and coal isn't really everywhere. You also need some fairly specific tools apart from pickaxes to effectively mine, and there are many other dangers underground and associated with mining the game doesn't really show, such as gasses, the need for support to avoid cave-ins and how they occur, etc.

Architecture I can see getting a bit from. It may give you very very basic ideas on it, but it's nothing incredibly helpful, in my opinion.

As for survival tips, I don't really think minecraft would be helpful. Flint and steel isn't really something you can get in a forest easily, and burning wood into charcoal isn't the most useful thing. Minecraft has very basic survival, I think.

That being said, none of these are without merit!

The cool thing is, though they don't really outright teach much, they inspire people to learn more about those subjects. Yes, you won't be able to become a master survivalist or a coal miner from playing minecraft, but it inspires a thirst for learning in some. They could go on to research those topics to learn about how they work in the real world.

You als have math this game can teach basic math through command blocks Redstone even the block count it teaches math.

It also teaches people how to play with other people through servers like the hive, modpack servers, or just plain vanilla minecraft servers. But you made your point good job.

That's a very good point. I didn't think of that. I do work with redstone and command blocks myself, and I understand the complexity of them.

I think it's common knowledge that you don't use a hoe to cut down trees.

I agree with you but I also agree with OP.

In some ways it is educational but in other ways its completely fictional. Diamond for you!
