This is a journal of a survivor from the Zombie outbreak. All we know are the names. He, his family, and a many others survived for 10 years in the infested lands of the undead. These are the entries he made during that time.
Four Days Ago...
DAY 1:
As every story starts with the day being normal as any other, this day did not. I had recently gotten fired from my job and had to go home to tell my wife. This was the second time I had been fired from the same job! I sat there in misery as she paniced about how we were going to pay for the bills and and things our 3 boys needed.
I felt horrible. I had to blow some steam off, so I started to play my RPG's and to escape this world and be someone awesome. Or so I thought. I kept dying cause I couldnt focus. I finally turned it off. I checked on my kids to make sure that they were ok and covered up. Then I went to bed myself. My wife is a light sleeper so I knew that she woke up when I crawled into bed, but with being made at me still she pretended to be asleep.
I woke up in the middle of the night to the three dogs barking. (Each son has his own dog) I saw some at the door so I flipped on the lights to answer it. Before I got to the asked you it was. They didnt answer. I asked again. Still no answer. Then I heard moaning. Like a painful moaning. I told them I was going to call the cops if they didnt leave. Still nothing. I went and retreived my oldest sons baseball bat. By ths time my wife was at the stairs asking who it was. I of course didnt know so thats what I told her. I started to slowly open the door and the person shoved the rest of the door wide open!
Naturally I swung. I landed a hit right in the chest. The person finally screamed in pain. "Come on Vicent!," he said, what was that for?" It was my brother Thomas. He came over drunk.
"Cause you didnt answer me when i asked who it was!," I yelled at him. I peered outside and noticed why he was moaning so bad. He threw up in my wifes flower bed. "Go lay down on the couch." I told him. My wife Trish came over to him with a pillow and blanket. I was past out in no time.
DAY 2:
So much stuff happened all at once it seemed like. The following morning we had to take Thomas to the E.R. He died later that night from some unknown infection. He wasnt the only one either. The doctor told me they were having a cases like this across the state.
DAY 3:
Come to find out it was some sort of zombie infection! The military tried to keep the "healthy" people seperate but that didnt work. People were trying to get to their loved ones in the compound and that created alot of noise. Which in turn attracted a lot of zombies. My family and I made it out with five other people.
Present.....
DAY 4:
We have been traveling trying to find a place to live. We have found a few places that we thought would be good but were either taking by other survivors or were already over run. I'm tired of running. I'm tired of looking at my boys and seeing the fear in their eyes. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. Maybe tomorrow will bring better luck.
Im sitting here during the night. I cant sleep so I thought that I would write. We holed up in an abonded house. It looks like an older couples house. Its nice. I love watching my kids sleep when they can. We can hear some moaning outside but nothing is at the windows or the door. Its starting to rain now. The people that we are traveling are pretty nice. Ill tell you more about them in the morning. I'm starting to feel tired.
DAY 5:
Its still rainin outside, so we decided to stay in the house a little longer. Zach and Connor the twin brothers weve been traveling wth have found a couple of tool kits that we could use. Weve been traveling light and on foot. We've come to notice hat the zombie reaction to ANY sound. The power grid is still on so we can at least have cooked meals still. I found what looks like a make up bag. I dumped it out and started to put jewelery in it that I found. Never know when this can come in handy. People will still like nice things. I hope anyway. I hope fnd a place to stay soon. A safehaven if you will. Ill write back later.
DAY 6 Continued:
It was a wonderful sight to see the boys playing today. We found the gym and the twins Zack and Connor taught the boys how to play basketball. It actually put a smile on my face and my wifes. Speaking of my wife, I can tell somethings on her mind but she says that shes fine. Kim, one of the other people, found the nurses office. That will help her out alot since she is a nurse.
LATER THAT NIGHT:
So tonight we are more at ease than we have been since this all started. We food the cafeteria. Nathan was able to make an amazing dinner. He didnt lie when he said he could cook. I think he was a chef or something. Hes an older man who looks to be in his low 50s. We will all sleep in the same room still. Just to keep the comfort. Thank goodness the power is still working though. I think we may only have that for a couple of weeks if the power plant isnt maintained. I think we will come up with a plan to find more supplies to start getting ready for the winter. But for now good night.
DAY 7:
So today my wife told me what was bothering her. Shes pregnent! Im so torn! I mean its great that we are having a baby! But when there are zombies! I am glad that we have found a place to stay. On another note John, Nathan, and Connor went to get more supplies. They brought back a pick up truck full. We did have a hard closing the gate because the noise got the attention of the undead. They also brought back a woman and her daughter. The little girl looks to be one years old. She so cute. Her name is Stacey and the mothers name is Nancey.Nancey looks to be in her low twenties. Im glad that the guys found them. I couldnt imagine loosing one of my children. I'll try and write more later. I need some time to think about everything. Its been......a very busy day.
DAY 8:
Today I decided to go out and collect supplies with John and Nathan. We have made the choice to get everythig from the super market until its completely empty. Then we could go to the hardware store. We got back just fine too. It seems like the zombies have started to slim out. Thats a nice relief. I have to go make my rounds. Its my turn on watch.
DAY 12:
Wow it seems like forever since I wrote anything down! We have done so much stuff in the past four days its amazing! So here it goes: We started to gather supplies from the super market like I said we planned on doing. We cleared all of the shelves! After a while when he realized we needed more shelf space we actually went back for the shelves! It was kinda funny I thought. Thank goodness the shelves came apart very easy. I wish there was a Wal Mart around. That way we can get clothes. But we do have soap. Hahaha
Nancy and her daughter Stacey have both taken a liking to Connor. I was told that he was the one who found them hiding. Speaking of new people...a family of six found us! Yeah six people! I'm in such a good mood that things are starting to turn around now. There is a father and mother with 3 boys and a little girl.
Trish is doing good. Shes been having morning sickness though, and shes tired. After the hardware store, which is half empty, I think I'm going to start gathering furnatire and clothing for everyone. There have only been about 2 zombies per block. We have seen some wandering around in homes though. Or have seen their faces pressed against the windows trying to get to us.
My oldest son found the schools swimming pool. We havent decided if we are going to bottle as much of the water as we can, and pump it out and put fresh water in it. Some people want to have the water with the chlorine in it to wash things when the power goes out. If we put fresh water in it then some of us and can put some sand at the bottom of it and then put fish and some people say frogs. So this way we will have at least a meat to eat. I think we should do both. If we stock up enough supplies then we should be able to last a while.
Kim as taken to organizing everything and keeping count. She did bring up the point that sooner or later we will have to venture further out of the town. So with that note the twins have taken it upon themselves to fix up a couple of duallies. So when the time comes we can go out and collect. Some things that they have gotten were some plants from peoples gardens. I think that this also was a great idea since its too late in the season to plant anything. After they brought back the first bunch we started a compost pile. Wow that was a lot. Lets see what I have to tell you tomorrow night.
DAY: 14
Nothing has really been going on lately. Trish seems kinda depressed so I treated her to a pinic at lunch. That seemed to brighten her day. We just relaxed and talked. It was amazing! We havent done that since we started dating.
The guys have finished pulling everything out of the hardware store. Now they have started to empty out the houses. They have been spray painting an X on the doors for the ones that they have cleared. Which is only 2 right now. I guess we will see how the rest of the night goes.
DAY: 15
Well the rest of the night was very interesting to say the least. The mother of the family of six was pregnent, oh her name is Angela, and I didn't know it. I didnt really talk her that much. Anyway Im off subject. She had her baby last night. Its So awesome to see that and I cant wait until we have ours. So with this newborn we ahve realized that we have NO baby supplies. I guess I find some humor in it. Dont ask. So the twins and myself have made plans to use one truck and venture further out to the next city to the Wal-Mart thats there. We will be leaving in a couple of days when the boys have finished the truck.
DAY: 16
John and Nathan have been going through the local houses. We have enough furnature for every room of the school so that have just been getting the things that we need. They actually brought back a couple of hunting guns they found in the last house that they looked in. I dont know what type they are, but according to John that are in great shape. We have been having group meetings every night with erveryone so we all know whats going on and to voice what we think. I brought up the topic of the pool again tonight. I think its something thats very important and something very useful. Everyone agreed, and Kim made the comment of "youre in charge so we will do it"
Whoa what?! I didnt know I was in charge, but everyone in that room looked at it the same way Kim did. So I guess I'm in "charge" I dont know how I feel about that. With the way everything has been going I guess most of the ideas were mine. Now only if it paid good. Just joking. Knowing that everyone in my care is alive and well is a payment good enough for me.
DAY: 17
So the twins and I head out today. Its about a half hour drive so it shouldnt be too bad, but you never know. Ill write more tonight once we are back home.
DAY: 17 Night
We are on our way to the next town to acquire baby stuff, and of course other supplies. Everything looks so dead out here. The roads are a mess with vehicles and bodies. We have to drive on the side of the road. I cant believe its been two and a half weeks already. I hope that we dont attract too much attention when we get into town.
We are finally here in the Wal-mart, and we are stuck in it. There are a load of zombies outside and its a matter of time before they smash through the glass doors. I have no idea how this happened. There were barely any of them outside when we got here. We started to load the truck up with clothes and more food. We went to the sporting goods section but someone had already been there. What to do... I'll think of something.
Got it! We went to the roof and scanned for a semi truck. Funny thing is that there was one in the docking bay. Go figure. So we went down to see if it was open. It wasnt but it wasnt locked either. I thought that this was kinda odd. Zack opened it and a man came running out and swung at Zack with a wooden baseball bat. It struck in the ribs. I started to yell at the man to stop but Conor had him in some sort of wreslting lock. I blinked and they were down on the ground. I went over to the guy eing held and I told him to calm down ad we werent here to hurt him.
I looked in the back of the truck and saw why he reacted the way he did. There was a teenage girl holding a boy in her arms. He wa probably about ten years old. I told them the same thing as I did to the guy. I put my hand on Connor and told him to let go. He did. I helped the man up. I looked down at the floor and apologized for the way he acted. Zack took the apology. I told the new people who we were and what we doing here. The man introduced himself as Percy his son as Jacob, and his daughter Brandi. I also told tem of the schol and that they were more than welcomed to come with us. They took the offer without thinking about it.
My plan, since we were in a store, was to go shopping. We had a whole semi to fill! We grabed shopping carts and started to load them up. We grabbed everything from the pharmecy, clothes, toys, some electronics, canned food, books, tools, sporting goods, and craft goods. That took us at least a couple of hours. We just pushed the carts in the back with the goods in them. Only problem was that I didn't know who was going to drive. When I voiced this Percy told me he was a construction worker and knew how to drive a lot of equipment. This is good to know. We helped him to the cab. We had to take out a couple of zombies to get there. We got everyone in the trailer and we were on our way. Man what a long day and night.
DAY: 18
When got back Percy and his kids were shown where they could live. Everyone was worried about what happened to us, but they were of course pleased with all of the stuff we brought back. Trish and the other women had put a shecdule together for the children while we were gone. It was a school shecdule with a few extra things like first aid and CPR. Zack went and showed Kim his side. Turns out he has a few broken ribs. We started to unload the goods that we found it seemed to bring the morale up alot. We also started to can a few of the things from the garden. Someone had grabbed a pool that came with a filter so we are going to set that up outside and pump the pool water into that.then fill the pool back up with tap water. This way the schools pool filter can filter this into drinking water and we can have the old pool water for cleaning. Later tonight we are going to have a meeting. Wonder how it will go....
DAY: 19
Last nights meeting went ok. We have decided that the next thing we need to focus on is getting an alternate power source and communication. John being a former truck driver thought about using a CB in the semi we brought back. Percy said he could build a windmill out of car parts and some wood. But for that we have to make a run to a lumber yard. I had Jason, who is Angela's husband, look on the computers to see where the nearest one is. I guess he is some sort of computer tech. Hes suppose to be getting back to me soon. For the windmill we are going to use car batteries to hold the power. Until we find something bigger. I have the twins going around the town collecting the batteries now. Lets see how far we can get before the power goes out.
DAY: 23
Its been a couple of days since I've wrtten anything down. We have been busy building and killing. The construction of the windmill is done and we are working on a second to give us more power. On the bad note more zombies have arrived to the town. Zack and Connor noticed them first when they were out collecting car parts. i think that they are the ones from the trip to Wal-Mart but I'm not sure. Jason the tech guy has collected the cameras from the gas stations and the store. We helped him put them up around the school campus. Hes been training his oldest son and my oldest, who are both 13, to watch the TV screens and to let us know if anything important is going on. We all have radios that we have gotten from the store so that makes communication easier. Oh man.....the power just went out. Now the fun really begins.
DAY: 24
With the power grid out to the town we are in the dark. I write this tonight next to a lantern. Everyone is getting a little jumpy during the night. We have increased or patrols around the campus to to be on the safe side. We haven't been useing the power from the windmill yet. Percy has been over looking the construction of at least 2 more windmills, which will give us a total of 4. I suggested to Percy that I think we should have a "hut" to house the batteries. He agreed and has started to draw out floor plans for it. This way we can have them grounded so they don't start a fire some where. Zack and Connor have taken it upon themselves kill some zombies every once in a while. They say its to keep the count going down. John is currently working on an antenea so we can get a longer range on the CB. Hopefully someone is out there still.
DAY: 26
Well yesterday wasn't the greatest of all days. John had a heart attack and almost died. We were all working outside trying to finish up the windmills when he just fell to the ground. I radioed for Kim to tell her what was going on. I had a couple of the guys pick him up and take him to Kim's office. He was put on a bed and she quickly took care of him. Later we found out that she suggested we go to a hospital for supplies. That's what scares me. I mean if you think about it that where it all began. Not the hospital near us, but still, there are going to be a lot more zombies in a hospital. Think about it this way, when someone gets severly bit and then doesn't feel well where are they going to go? The hospital, and all it take is one person who doesn't know what they are about to turn into to kill everyone there. I'll talk with the others about it. It's still in the air.
DAY: 27
I've talked with the others about the idea of going to the hospital. We have decided that its dangerous, but we have to go. There are supplies there that we don't have. With us all in agreement I had the twins start loading up the truck. I told them to pack extra food and water, because we don't know how long we will be there. We will leave in a couple days. I thought that it would be nice to have a couple of days off. To kind of recover and relax from the building and everything else that's going on.
DAY: 28
We have set off to go to the hospital. I have no ida what we are going to do. I think that we will have to kind of scout it out to begin with then maybe do a hit and run. This way the zombies don't really get a lock on us. Right now we are just enjoying the ride and just talking to pass the time. I can tell the boys are pretty nervous too. I'll write later once we get there.
DAY: 29
We got here about an hour ago. We are held up in the building across the street. Zack had the idea of baiting the zombies that are in the streets. While the other two go in. I don't like that idea, because it splits us up. I was thinking of some way to block the front, so no more could come in. I was thinking of just backing up the truck right through the glass doors. Then fighting off whatever comes at us inside. We will try something in the morning. I do not want to go in there during the night. I'll write when, or if, we are on our way back.
DAY: 31
Well we are on our way back home. It feels kind of funny to call a school home, but that's what it is. Anyway have can out with a great load of supplies. We also found a woman named Kristen. Her and some guy that she rescued were living in the hospital! I couldn't believe it. The guy, Tim was his name, didn't make it.
Here's how it started. The twins and I decided to back up the truck through the glass doors. We hopped out and started to swing. We got the area cleared and grabbed backpacks, bolt cutters, and flashlights. It was dark even for it being day time. We started to move through the rooms together and take what we could. We found some storage areas that had shelves full of meds. We loaded up that backpacks and took them to the truck. The hallway had filled up with at least five more infected. Easy for us to take down. We dropped the bags off at the truck, and grabbed more bags. We went to the second floor and came around the cornor, and that's when I ran into Kristen. I mean I ran into her. I almost knocked her over. She explained to us her story as we followed her to the room where her and Tim had been living. Come to find out she had minered in meds in collage. She majored in marine bio. My first thought was no wonder she survived, she's a genuis. We told them about the school, and they agreed to come with us.
We collected a few more meds and items from the rooms, and then went back down to the truck. Zack had the idea to try and fitone of the beds into the back of the truck. We got it in. Barely but we got it. We had to take a few more zombie out and then we off down the road. About a mile down the road we got a flat tire! Worst spot ever to get a flat tire. Zack and Connor teamed up and changed the flat in a matter of seconds in seemed like. It wasn't quick enough. We got surrounded pretty good as Tim, Kristen, and myself held off what we could. The twins hopped back in the truck and the three of us started to climb in the back to make sure nothing held on, and to lighten the count. I was helping Tim get in when he was grabbed by a couple of zombies. Kristen grabbed him too, but Zack started to take off. We couldn't hold on to him. Kristen cried herself to sleep and it was long ride. We just got here to the school. I'll write more tomorrow.
DAY: 33
It's starting to get colder outside now. Winter will be here in a matter of no time. Kristen, the new girl, seems to be fitting in perfectly. John is up and moving around. Kim has put him a lifting restriction. John finally got a message on his CB. All it really says is to stay in our home and someone will be there to rescue us. That message didn't work out for some people, which is a shame. Percy has started to construct buildings to keep the pool outside warm during the winter. I don't know what we are really going to do during this time. Everyone will be pretty much inside. I think the kids should be able to go outside for a while to get fresh air. Speaking of the kids. The two oldest boys said that they thought they noticed a guy spying on us. They weren't too sure, but it kinda freaking me out. I think we are going to need to be a little more aware now.
DAY: 35
I can't believe that it's over a month since this has started. I'm starting to feel comforable, which is the scary part. I've always told people at work that once you get comfortable around the equipment is when you screw up the most. I have had everyone make a back pack for themselves, and put them near the back door. They will stay there just in case we have to leave in a hurry. We have also started to run a few 'drills' So everyone including the children know what to do. I've also asked the twins to set up a few vehicles in some garages in town. They put some supplies in there as well. Enough for a couple of weeks for the amount of people we have. Trish seems to be in a bettr mood latly. I think that she believes our baby won't grow in a world of chaos. She's starting to show a little. It makes me excited.
DAY: 36
I haven't been able to sleep latly. I keep thinking about the guy the kids say that they saw. Any way on a happier note, it's Trish's birthday today. I planned a pinic and movie on the roof. I hope that she likes it. She deserves it. We raked leaves to put in the compost pile, but we let the little kids jump in them first. It was awesome to see them laugh and play outside. The only problem was the moaning from the zombies. Zack and Connor has thinned them out again. My oldest son jokes around and calls them the Z.K.S. I asked him what that stood for, and he said it stood for Zombie Killing Squad. I couldn't help but laugh. He has always had an imgaination. I'll let you know how Trish's party went. Right now I have to go help set up.
DAY: 39
Trish's party went great! No zombies to deal with and everyone got along. The reason why I haven't written in a couple of days is because the guy the kids saw came to our home with some friends. There were only four of them, and they said that they have been looking for a safe haven. With everyone being in that spot themselves we naturally let them in. I will admit it makes me nervous having them here. They keep snooping around, and it looks like they keep judging people. What I mean is they look at you in a way to see if you can fight. That's the vibe I get anyway. I'll keep you more in the loop. This way whoever reads this has a chance to stay away from them.
DAY: 41
We had a meeting last night. The new comers weren't all that friendly about the plans we were making for winter. I asked them to leave today. We gave them some supplies and sent them on their way. The odd part is that they didn't argue about it. This has made me more alert and kind of frightened. I'e told everyone that they go no where by themselves. I've also pulled in the guard patrols to just the school. My turn for patrol so hopefully I'll write more tomorrow.
