If you could see this, for one, you don't need glasses. Two, if you like the Flash drawings better than the MS Paint ones, let me know your opinion in the comments! Without further ado, let's get to the blog!

Oh hey guys! Eli is back at it again with another pointless blog! Well, of course you're probably going to look at the pretty memes instead of the words, so I'll try to make this blog funny for you. So, I've been browsing on a bunch of sites, and lately, I've seen a trend that has irked me. No, not those wincey emojis! I already made a blog on that one... This one is going to be about website styling.

Oh shut up! It's not boring! I'll make it interesting for you guys, since some of you can get bored quite quickly. So, this is mostly going to be bias about the flat design in general, but like I said, it's not a rant. I'm going to include some decent facts and the "history" of these designs through my understanding of what I've seen during my millennial years, so I'm not going to talk about what the 90s did with Skeuomorphism, MS DOS or anything like that. So without further ado, let's get started!

Of course, I was born in the 2000s, so I was exposed to very little of the internet as possible so I didn't grow up to be a rancid texting kid. My entire life was more on the lines exposed to VHS tapes, in which if you millennials after the year 2000 didn't know, it's a black box you put into a bigger box to watch movies. On a computer standpoint, I only was exposed to MS Paint and those Jump-Start games that I had when I was three. Gosh darn it, it was so fun to print out crap! Oh the memories...

After I was deemed ready, I was exposed to YouTube and the full extent of the Interwebs. I'm not even joking on that one. Every single gosh darn thing could be exposed to me, but I was a stupidly smart kid; knowing which was bad or good. These sites consisted of the 3D design of Skeuomorphism back then. They were easy to get around, and as a kid, I was still stimulated by all the buttons and 3D-looking icons. If I was exposed to the flat design as a kid, I probably would grudgingly stare at it with an awkward glare, saying "Is this for babies!? I'm not a baby! I'm almost a tween!".
What is this I Don't Even
Soon, I was exposed to iPhones/iPods, and my world flipped upside down! My mind was blown with all the 3D buttons of the computer, but now you could do anything with the swipe of a finger! As I continued on, my kid self got used to the thing and used it for music and games. They all still used the 3D design, and this was iOS6, so no 2048 nonsense here!
MY FACE TRYING TO WORK AN IPHONE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Eventually in 7th grade, rumors went about the school with this new fangled thing called "iOS7". I was mystified when I saw this flat style, saying "Wow. That looks like something for babies! Look at the wooshy effects!". I was scared of updating my iPod for once, and thankfully, it was a 4th gen one.

As the years passed by, I managed to get an iPhone! Turns out, it was iOS9, so I had to man up and try out the system. They say it has faster speeds than any other iPhone in the past, and believe it or not, they were right! People did say iOS7 was slow, but iOS9 fixed that crap. They added something that the my old iPod didn't have: convenience. If I never had that iPhone, the internet would be slow, and I wouldn't be able to listen to YouTube videos in the background. Not only that, but the control panels were fixed too. iOS9 knew how to blend it's professional Skeuomorphic design and it's odd flat design to create this wonderful fusion of convenience and professionalism!

Then along came iOS10 and screwed some things up. Some things weren't that bad, like the fancy convenient gifs you could send to friends. You can even get your own gif keyboards! Just... Spiffy! The problem being is that the convenience of the iOS9 design was gone. iOS10 made you swipe right in order to get to your music, the buttons looked weird and childlike, and possibly even more things I haven't mentioned! The worst of all this, is the removal of the "swipe to unlock" feature. This thing was easy to use, and all you had to do was swipe right to get to your phone! Now, say goodbye to your home button, because that crap might as well break after using it multiple times, especially in rage or anger. Just watch it sink in the phone as you take it to the Phone repair man for the hundredth time!
U mad troll
Okay, I'm not demonizing flat, and there are some flaws with the 3D design that I can understand. I'm just saying that it's too overused in sites. "But Eli! You only talked about the iOS market! You forgot about the computers and all of the sites on the Interwebs!" Well, you know what smart donkey, I think you're right for once!
Whyyy??? - But Proto?!?
Once Apple decided to show off it's flat design along with Android phones, every site blindly derped "Hey! Maybe I could make some money off this lazy donkey of a design!" So once the flat design was adopted by Apple, sloth-like website designers swarmed to make their own flat sites and spam them everywhere. Sometimes the sites allowed wince-worthy emojis and swooshy icons to appeal to kids and "teens". Unfortunately, this does not make a site look professional. It makes it look as desperate as two hobos fighting over a moldy sandwich. I mean, do you expect teenagers to be stupid or something? Most teens are at least intelligent enough to have an opinion on something, so why the heck would they do this? Ugh.

Sometimes, flat sites can have their upsides, and they can work well to make the site look professional or have a charm. Take for instance, Agar.io. Sure, it's just a game for kids, but before Miniclip went and screwed it up, it had a stylish choice and blew up in popularity. Sometimes, even if they claim to have speed, they really do have speed! I mean, I love gifs, but sometimes too much 3D can slow progress to a crawl. Maybe it's just my internet, but people claim it's fast as Sonic on monster drinks, so I don't blame them.

The last thing I want to bring up is the fact that TV channels are using flat logos. Now, this I don't see the point in doing so. To be honest with you, making you logo look flat is not going to change anything. It's not like the internet, and your logo isn't going to slow down TV progress. Sure, they have internet websites, but your 3D logo can blend with the flat design if you do it right. I mean, YouTube did this right for crying out loud, so what's the point? Sometimes, they do this change to appeal more to kids or teens, but then they say "Please buy our app now! We're desperate!". Okay, they don't actually say they're desperate, but it sounds like it! I mean, the science channel is the biggest culprit of this, subtly cramming the phrase "Also on the app!" at the end of almost every TV show bumper. Just... Stop being puppy dogs begging for a treat and try to air your app once per two-three shows, like what Cartoon Network does, okay?
Desperate, Memes, and Mean: SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME
THAT YOURE SO DESPERATE
YOU MADE ALLTHESE MEMES
SO PEOPLE WILL
TRY YOUR APP
img flip com
Ugh, that sounded like my 14 year-old self, didn't it? Wew; I apologize... Anyways, in conclusion, I do not want to demonize both these styles, nor do I even disrespect the opinions of many. You can put your opinion about the subject in the comments, but just don't splash about it. Let us be men (or women) and talk about this subject civilly. So I'd say, let there be both, but there's really nothing we can do about. Beg as you please, but America's businesses won't really bat an ear to this. Just like the emoji article, I'm going to say that I'm just a small speck of many that hate this design of flat. You can browse all you want on a wooshy flat design on your social media garbage all you want, just realize that there are some with different opinions like me. That's all I have to say, but until then, this is Eli (or Periderp) signing out!

Dang. I guess this is what new technology does to people. You should have kept that as a novelty, because what if your kids (if you want to have any in the future) start to grow up to be idiots using social media constantly while doing stupid challenges? Do you want that? (I actually have one of those 1,000 pound box TVs sitting in my room right now, and just staring at it makes me tempted to go grab my Nintendo 64 (Yes, I have one of those) or Wii and go play with it. In my opinion, you should keep the 1,000 pound TV. It could be worth a lot in the future! ;3)

I know... I think our society is truly doomed at this point.

(Thankfully, I'm training to become a Preschool Teacher (I'm not even joking on that one), so maybe there's some hope in this world after all...)
