Part Twenty One (I don't remember my Roman numerals past 20)

The long walk back to Morrowind let Branwen and Wigliff get to know each other better. By unspoken agreement, they were a "couple" by the time they got home. Whatever that meant on Topia.

Grizz was on gate duty when they made it back. "Where the HELL have you two been? We were looking everywhere for you," he nagged as he opened the gate.

"Long story, send out the message that we're calling a meeting in town square," Wigliff said. "In... let's say... an hour. I need a bath."

After quick baths and a change of clothes, Branwen and Wigliff stood before the assembled citizens of Morrowind. "Holy crap," Branwen whispered to Wigliff, "I didn't realize there were this many people here."

Wigliff whispered out of the side of his mouth, "Yeah, it's really rare to see everyone at once. Everyone sort of does their own thing most of the time."

He cleared his throat and spoke to the crowd. The clever design of the square amplified his voice so even the stragglers in the back could hear. "Hey guys! We have a pretty major problem. It looks like Paril has made good on his plan to attack the Topians. Branwen and I just got back from there and the place has been ruined. Everyone's missing, the town has been ransacked."

"How do you know it was Paril?" someone asked from the crowd. "Could it have skeletons or zombies?"

"Undead would have killed everyone, which wouldn't have amounted to much," Branwen answered. "Everyone's MISSING. They weren't killed, they were captured."

"Still," someone else said doubtfully, "you don't KNOW it was Paril."

Wigliff looked at Branwen meaningfully. "Time to spill the beans?" he asked her telepathically.

Branwen took a deep breath and prepared to explain the unexplainable.

"The Topians were taken by mechanical creatures," she began. "They left tracks in the earth everywhere. But more importantly... the Cube told me." Branwen waited for the laughter and scoffing to subside before she continued.

"When Adol took me to see the Cube, I touched it. It formed some sort of telepathic link with me. I can talk to it. From anywhere. Adol can also talk to the Cube, and he told the Cube that the Topians were being marched to a fortress by a bunch of dangerous mechanical creatures."

"What a load of bull--" Fokkusu said loudly. Wolfie punched him in the arm. "Ow," he complained, rubbing the sore spot.

"I know it sounds like crap," Wigliff replied. "And I thought she was delusional myself." This time BRANWEN punched WIGLIFF in the arm. "At least, until the Cube talked to ME, and threatened to implode my skull..."

"Let ME talk to them," the Cube said to Wigliff and Branwen.

"How?" Branwen asked.

"Watch!" The Cube sounded like it was smirking.

"BEHOLD," a booming voice echoed through the town square. "I am the Cube. I brought the Topians to this planet. I brought each of you here as well. Though you can't hear my thoughts (probably because you're all pretty dumb) I can project my voice through this man here!"

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Wigliff asked in a panic to the Cube. The voice was coming from his own mouth!

"Shut up and let me talk," the Cube replied.

More laughter and jeers came from the crowd, and a few people looked as if they were going to leave. "You obviously require a miracle," the Cube told the crowd. "Let me provide one for you as proof."

Sparkling, multicoloured lights swirled over the heads of the people in the square. Cautiously, they backed out of the way. Suddenly, there was a loud POP, and standing in the middle of the square, surrounded by the awestricken people, was a sky-blue pegasus with a rainbow-coloured mane. The crowd was utterly silent, until suddenly someone screamed, "EEEEEEeeeeeeee!" and came running forward towards the strange animal. He wrapped his arms around the pegasus's neck and squealed again like a little girl.

"What the hell is Tristem DOING?" Branwen asked Wigliff. Wigliff was rubbing his temples as though he was developing a migraine.

"Tristem. HUGE Brony. I don't even KNOW where the Cube picked that up," Wigliff explained.
