Ok so you made your server, now what? You need plugins! :D This post will tell you which plugins are best and a must-get.LINKS ARE AT THE BOTTOM!

Protection:

WorldGuard- WorldGuard is a plugin made by the creator of WorldEdit! WorldGuard simply allows you to protect areas, then set flags for them. Example: You made your spawn, now to protect it using WorldGuard all you have to do is: Do //wand to get a wooden axe. Left click one corner of the spawn, then right click on the other corner of the spawn. Then do /region define (name of region, ex. spawn). That command just made a region in its database named "spawn" or whatever you named it. To add flags to this region, simply do /region flag (region name, ex. spawn) (flag name) (allow/deny/command/whatever). I dont know all the flags, so I suggest going to the wiki of WorldGuard to see all the flags. Example of flagging: To protect your spawn from pvping. Do: /region flag spawn pvp deny. /region - The basic command of WorldGuard. /region flag - this means your creating a flag. /region flag spawn. Creating a flag for (spawn). /region flag spawn pvp deny - Denying pvp in this region. Add owners to the region: /region addowner (spawn) (username).

iZone-Does the same stuff as WorldGuard, using a shovel. I believe you use /zmod help for the commands. Almost the same as WorldGuard.

Lockette- Lockette is a plugin which a lot of servers use. What this plugin does is protects chests, doors, signs, furnaces and such. Good plugin for survival servers. Faction servers can use this too but keep in mind that raiding would be almost impossible.

Anti-Grief:

LogBlock- LogBlock is a plugin that you need MySQL for. (For bigger servers). LogBlock allows you to check who removed a block, placed a block, and then rollback griefed areas. Simple to use, but for bigger servers.
CoreProtect-CoreProtect does the same stuff as LogBlock, but is for EVERY server! Simply use "/co i" while holding a block and then use the block to check who broke/placed a block. Rollbacking: /co rollback t:(Time! Ex. 2h) r: (radius! ex. 25) u:(User - If needed).

- Comparing these 2 plugins... they are both great! LogBlock is a little more advanced as it uses MySQL, and is for bigger servers! Forbeginners: I suggest using CoreProtect. Easy to handle!

Groups:

PermissionsEX -PermissionsEx (A.k.a PEX) is a pretty good plugin for groups. A lot of configuration, a lot of commands. More friendly to servers that want serious staff, as only you can choose who can promote/demote. I personally dont use Pex since I never could really understand all of its commands. Give it a day or 2 and you will be using this plugin like you never have before! (Recommended for anyone)

GroupManager- GroupManager, oh, how much I love this plugin. Since I use this plugin I know a lot about it. This plugin is extremely easy to use and you can do EVERYTHING in game. Create a group, give it a prefix, add some permissions, promote someone in to it. All can be done in-game. /mangadd (group name) - create group. /mangaddv (suffix/prefix) - create a Suffix/prefix for the group. /mangaddp (group )(node) - Add a permission node to a group. /manuadd (player) (group) Promote a plugin to that group.

- Personally I like GroupManager better since it is what I use. Easy to handle, easy configs. However, any OP on your server will have the ability to promote/demote people on your server, which not everyone likes. So for beginners, GroupManager is yours. Others, try out PEX. (Both AWESOME plugins).

Fun and games:

Paintball War Edition- This plugin is one of my very favourites. This plugin allows your server to have Paintball, but advanced paintball. Setup an arena, some permissions, and your good to go! A lot of in-game items are included in this plugin. Playing a game, running out of paintballs? No worries, the plugin comes with its own in-game shop! You can buy rocket launchers (RedstoneRepeaters) Airstrikes (Fences) and a lot more! This plugin is packed with fun.

MobArena- This plugin is good for economy plugins. Want some money? Go slaughter some mobs at the MobArena, takes a while to setup, but its worth it at the end! Add some traps in your arena, and have Fun fun fun fun, fun! A lot of tutorials out there on how to set this plugin up. This plugin is one of the most best plugins out there! Highly recommended!

HungerGames- If you havent heard about the Hunger games plugin, look it up! A wonderful plugin, a lot of big servers out there running this plugin, and servers 100% dedicated to this plugin! (Hungergames servers, really popular!) Like mobarena, it takes a while to setup, this plugin is only fun with 5-10 people! Also like MobArena, there are a lot of tutorials out there on this plugin!

Team Fortress 2- One of the most popular games on the internet, TeamFortress2, now in Minecraft! This plugin has a lot to offer, as I have used this plugin before, it is flawless! Extreme games going on your server when this plugin is in action! Easy to setup, make your own classes, or just customize the default classes! Really fun plugin, just like Hungergames, a lot of big servers run this plugin!

Basic Needs:

Essentials- With out this plugin, you cant have a server.Literally. This plugin is one of the most used plugins EVER! Every server I know of has this plugin. This plugin has A LOT to offer. From nicknames, to an economy, to kits! No need of those kit plugins anymore when you've got essentials. Easily disable commands like /nuke and /enchant! This is a must-have plugin. Cant imagine a server without it.

WorldEdit- This plugin is simply amazing. From the creators of WorldGuard, comes WorldEdit. Easily make a pyramid in seconds, form a huge sphere in just a click! Use the brush tool to even out mountains, make terrains smoother. Simply fix water by using //fixwater! Drain a whole ocean with //drain! Replace a whole mountain with diamonds! This plugin is also a must-need.

PvP:

CombatTag- This plugin gets rid of all the cowards on your server! This plugin makes it so there is no more PvPLogging. (Pvping then you logout) This plugin makes it so when you Pvplog, an NPC of you stays in the server while you are tempbanned. Your NPC will die by the other players and you will lose all of your stuff, so dont Pvplog!

TopPvP- TopPvP is a plugin I recently found and use on my KitPvP server, this plugin adds a leaderboards to your server! /leadkills - Command says it all. /leaddeaths - Shows the lead players in deaths. /kills - Your kills /deaths - Your deaths /kdr - Your Kill/death ratio.

McMMO- McMMO is a very useful plugin to some PvP servers, and can also be used on non-pvp servers! What this plugin has to offer are skills. For each subject in Minecraft there are ranks for players, and skills. There are subjects like Herbalism (Farming), Acrobatics, Axes (Axe skills), Unarmed (Using bare hand) and such. The more skills you have in one subject, the better you are at it. Example: Your swords skill is 1500 and the person you are pvping only has 400 swords skills. You both have the same sword too. You will likely win because of your 1500 skills in "Swords" making your swords epic! (Use /mctop to see Overall leaderboards (Skills) )

- They are all awesome plugins :) -

Worlds:

MultiWorld- MultiWorld is a easy to use plugin that allows you to make more worlds and customize them.

MultiVerse- MultiVerse is a more advanced version of MultiWorld. Both have the same reasoning, which is to create more worlds on your server, then customize them.

Communities/Teams:

Towny- Towny is a plugin that allows you to make towns, recruit players for your town, and let no one else have acces to it. Sort of like a small community. There are a lot of survival servers that rely on Towny. A easy to use, wonderful plugin.

Factions- Factions, another one of the most used plugins. Ever seen server advertisements like "BlankPVP FACTIONS PVP RAID!!"? Yea, like it says in the advertisement, they are factions servers. Factions is a plugin that allows you to create a, lets say, sort of a "team". With this team (faction from now on) you can do the following:

Claim land for your faction. Overclaim other factions land. Destroy their bases. Recruit players, have moderators in your factions. Set a description for your faction. Overrule the server.

- Both different plugins for different kinds of servers. -

Voting:

Votifier- Setting up votes on your server? Youneedvotifier. Votifier is a plugin that allows voting to take place. Has a public key, an IP, and a port so on the voting site your are setting votes on, you can enter those in order for the site to know it is going to be on your server.

GAListener- GAListener is a must-have plugin if you are going to vote, with out, well no ones going to vote. GAListener, like in the name of the plugin, is a listener. What this plugin does is it corresponds with Votifier and it's IP's, Port and key to do the following:

Adda message that broadcasts on the server when Player1 has voted. Example: "Player1 has just voted @ Planetminecraft and got 5000 diamonds!!". So it pretty much tells everyone on the server that Player1 just voted. Woot. Another thing this plugin does is it gives rewards to the user that votes. This is the best feature of this plugin. No ones going to vote if they get nothing in return, right? So with this you can set it up so everytime a user votes, they get, lets say, 5 Diamonds, 300 exp, and 5 TNT. This makes the player want to vote more!

Portals/Gates:

CreativeGates- This plugin might be old and outdated, but it works for some people. What this plugin does is it allows you to make a gate, looking any way you like, but must have a diamond block below it. Then just simply take a clock, then right click on the diamond block, water will appear (Thats the portal). Now just make another portal somewhere else that looks identical and do the same. Those 2 gates are now linked!

ColorPortals- ColorPortals has the same reasoning as CreativeGates. Lets you teleport to different places. You will have to found a tutorial on how to create the portals as I have forgot.

MultiVerse - Portals- This plugin is a plugin that is an add-on to the plugin MultiVerse. What this plugin does is that it allows you to create a little gate, use WorldEdit and get the wand (//wand). Select one corner of the portal then the other. Do /mvp create (portalname) (Which world it is going to). (NOTE: This plugin is only for teleporting from WORLD TO WORLD. Not place to place.) Example: You are in Factions world. You want to go to HungerGames world. Go through the portal! Woosh! Happy HungerGames.

Thank you for reading this whole post and hopefully you got some of these plugins.

Diamond if you liked it.

Favourite if you loved it.

What about Hawkeye? It Checks the history of blocks like "[Username] Opened chest (Time)" or if a block was exploded my something or someone.

Yes that is part of the Anti-Grief section with Core Protect and Logblock. People can use it if they want, I just didn't want to include it.

I'd recommend Pex for new players? It also can use MySQL, so does coreprotect.

More people have asked how to use group manager than pex, also I'll be making a pex tutorial for the few.

CoreProtect doesn't need MySQL. Pex is hard to some users but if they want to use it they can.
