Hi guys! It's Greytopher once again with a new blog series!

Once again, I'd like to say hello once again! I've been gone for 27 days, and through these days I've been at a summer camp in Yosemite. Through this camp, it has been the most eventful summer of my life, and I'm so glad I went there and experienced it. I'm glad you guys have been patient enough to wait for another blog, and now, here it is.

PMC Think: What it's about...

PMC Think is a new blog series I've though of over the  past month based off of a community opinionated idea. In PMC Think, we'll talk about different topics every week, and how it'll affect us as a community/world.

I want you guys to voice your opinion about each topic. Please constrain yourself from one liners like "I agree". Try to explain your reason on why you agree. You guys have no idea how much I love to read your comments, and I'll try to reply to all of them ASAP.

Topic at hand: Social Networking

So, today, marking our 1st ever PMC Think session, I would like to talk about Social Networking, and how it has both helped mankind yet slowed it down in different ways.

For those who don't know what Social Networking is:

Definition: The use of a dedicated Web site to communicate informally with other members of the site, by posting messages, photographs, etc.

Basically, it means by using sites like this (PMC), facebook, MySpace, ect.

What I want to see in this chat is you voiceing your opinion on this. I want to see questions answered by it, and my main questions to you guys are:

  1.  "is it good for people? Is is bad? Explain in detail."
  2.  "What do you use social networking sites for?"
  3.  "Do you use your time productively on these sites?"
  4.  "Did you join this site because it looked fun, or because 'everyone else was doing it'?"
  5.  "Why do you use social networking sites?"

My opinion...

When it comes to Social Networking, I'm basically on it everyday. Since PMC is considered a social networking site, I'm connecting with friends and posting information to share with others. However, this has taken up my personal time that I adore and I'm suppost to use for more important issues like work and homework. Sites like these distract me from actual work at hand, except for now since this is now my "work". Other then that, I find PMC somewhat distracting from life but I like it in a sense that it makes me feel wanted since people like my writing.

On the other hand, facebook is what really ticks me off. Over the past couple of years since I've had my facebook, I've been gradually going on it less and less to a point where I just never think about it. There was a time in my life where I was addicted, and I was on it all the time to the point where it controlled my life. "You're dating that girl? I didn't know it since it didn't say on facebook. FACEBOOK OFFICIAL, BRO". I personally don't use it for reasons like that. Being "facebook official" really makes me mad, mad infact because it does happen. Happens all the time at my school, and it irks me to the point of no return.

Another thing that annoys me of things like that is specifically the facebook games. I don't know about you guys, but I bet every once in a while you'd love to play farmville or mafia wars or another game like that. I for one was addicted to Mafia Wars in the 7th grade, I was the only kid in my class that played, but one thing I remember distinctly was my brother to tell me to stop sending him Mafia Wars requests because it was overwhelming his email account. I abruptly stopped after that, realizing how much anger I brought upon myself from other students.

I get this a lot now too, so far I have way too many Farmville requests to count, it's sad. I find it annoying and irritating since it doesn't put my time to good use, as far as I can see.

Now, the last thing I want to touch up on is, that I wanted to use facebook as a tool to help me in the future. I never did so, and the so called "friends" I made on that website didn't help me with that either. I think of facebook as just another tool, to help people in finding friends, finding answers. It's branched off in so many ways that you can use it in so many ways, it's hard to count. Depending on how you use it, what do you use it for?

That's it for now, if you think this is a good blog idea for a series, please leave a lovely comment on what I can improve to make it better. A new one every week, if all goes well!

If you liked this blog, leave a diamond and a favorite!

If you want to voice your opinion, leave a comment!

Above all, subscribe for more content!

I agree, I like Facebook and Twitter for things like keeping in touch with family and friends, that's what it's designed for. I personally hate Facebook now for it's annoying games and all this jazz. I haven't gone on Facebook willfully in about two months. I only get on if a friend wants me to like his post or something weird like that. At one time I didn't get on for about six months, all it was, was me getting spammed with Farmville requests and some weird game I can't remember.

I think that social websites are good for keeping in touch with your family and work partners across a continent, I don't really use it that much, because I have no need to.
There are so many attention whores on facebook, saying stuff like "Like this and see what happens to the picture!" It is SO annoying!
And like what Dinow said, more people take photos of their clothes that they MIGHT buy at a store, post it on facebook, then put it back where they found it. I think that makes my position clear on social sites.

Thank you for the comment; I agree to an extent that websites like facebook should be used for the sole perpouse to help others.

"is it good for people? Is is bad? Explain in detail."  Actually I think it isn't good since it taking over some people's lives just like minecraft is taking over ours. In my school there are people who are actually people who spend more time taking a picture of what they're about to eat than actually eating it D:
"What do you use social networking sites for?" Only pmc and deviantart, for feedback on creations and sharing work, for the rest I no longer use any social networking websites at all.
"Do you use your time productively on these sites?" Nope chuck testa
"Did you join this site because it looked fun, or because 'everyone else was doing it'?"
Well, I started with MSN and this dutch thing called 'Hyves' when I was about 12, and that was indeed because everyone was doing it, and I made accounts on other stuff because other recommended it but I changed and I now am aigainst everything that is 'because everyone is doing it'
"Why do you use social networking sites?"
Why do I not? I think it's a waste of time basically, skype is enough :3

~I thought let's fill this in :P I have always thought the discussion about social networks is interesting :3

Great in-depth blog about socialnetwork websites.

I don't usually go on facebook as much as I do before probably because my notification box is filled with game requests...

Keep up the good work :D

Exactly why I quit; games on facebook aren't really my thing. Thank you for reading.

The reason I joined PMC is to share my creativity with others, even though I havn't uploaded much yet. Besides that, keep up the good :D

As long as you keep true to what it was intentionally made for, and not posting "bad" content, I wouldn't see why not uploading a lot is frowned upon!

Eh, for Social Network sites, I say it depends on the person in question on if they are good or bad for people. If the user is someone easily influenced by everything, might not be a good idea to join a Social Network. As a negative comment, that just seem to come with Social Network sites by the barrel, may cause something to tip. AKA, those teens and people who lose it and go emo over a negative comment or message, seen it happen and it is not at all pretty. For someone willing to look past any negativity and looking for chating/friends/etc, I say Social Networking is a great idea! It's a good way to get to know people, even if it's over a web site. Hell, I met some awesome friends over Social Networks.
Also, I never use Social Network sites for productivity XD
It's mainly friends, procrastination, and lol for me. [Kids, don't be a me]

Also x2. Joined PMC on own terms. It looked fun to share skins, textures, blogs, etc. with people. While it can be a little meh when it comes to getting noticed but it's still fun~
More so when you can get noticed!

Totally agree, I hate it when kids/people in general overreact in a negative way to a comment over the internet. Never is fun. Anyways, thank you for your opinion!
