It’s night. But I look at my watch and it says: 


11:00 


It's only eleven in the morning. Then why is it so black? 


In the distance I hear the faint remnants of a sound. High pitched too. Was it a scream? 

Yes, it probably was a scream.

Another victim.

You know why there are so many murders and deaths at night. For years, we all believed that criminals chose to target people under the cover of darkness, easy prey for robberies and murders. We were wrong.

The governments had been covering them up.

In Canada, a man by the name of David Smith was walking at night. He took a picture, and caught something. Something horrific. A creature. Gliding soundlessly accross the ground. He ran, and posted the pictures on the internet. He disappeared soon after. But it was out. The governments of the world had to admit that these creatures existed.

They are officially known as Suicide Inducing Organisms, or S.I.Os, but the general public knows them as reapers, because no one has ever lived after a close encounter with them. 

They feed of happiness, hope and light. There is no way to stop them. They keep coming and coming. When they get close enough, they suck out the will to live from people. They don't kill directly, they make the person relive their worst memories until they don't want to live anymore. Some hang themselves, others throw themselves in front of cars.

They used to be content with just the night, but when people found out they existed, people never went out at night anymore. The creatures got angry. They broke free and sucked the light out of the day. Now there is only night. Most people stay in all the time now, but I have to work, to put food on my table and to keep my home.

I turn a corner and begin to walk up a street. I always look behind my shoulder. I look up at the street lights, and as I was, they all begin to go dark. One of them is near.

I begin to run, and turn street corners frantically trying to run. I reach a house, and suddenly I hear a rustling in the bushes. I cower in fear, but out jumps a stray cat. I wipe my brow in relief, and turn around, and there it is. Bare feet away from my face. 

Everything goes black and cold, and I remember when my cat died when I was three, when I failed my important test, when the bully beat me up and everyone laughed, when I fell into a ditch and got stuck for 2 hours, and people just laughed. I realise how worthless my life is. 

My eyes turn back on, and the street is empty, I don't want to live anymore. I walk up to the train station, and up onto the platform. I jump onto the track, and lay down.

I see a flash of light, then everything goes black.

For good.
