UPDATE#1: I am currently in Hungary for the F1 Grand Prix, and I will be unable to continue this until I'm back in England. I just wanted to say that I've seen some of the artwork you guys have done and I wanted to congratulate you as soon as I could. To answer some questions I've recieved in either PMs or comments: 1: Yes, I use Photoshop. 2: I use a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch. 3: Yes, I'm making a comic. Have a look at one of my older blogs; A Miners Hunt, to see some of the concept art. 4: If you're struggling, practice makes perfect. I've had many requests from people asking "Sim0n, how'd you draw those awesome avatars of which the post was taken down by a moderator!?" Well, I decided to make a tutorial right before the contest came out. Of course, I'm only just making it now because I've been playing a sh*t tonne of games in the Steam Summer Sale. ANYWAY lets begin!
Start off by sketching a simple square. If you're doing this on paper, use a pencil at this stage.
Next, draw a body. The body is about 150% the height of the head.
Add some arms. Arms are 50% of the width of the body.
Draw some legs. Legs are the same size as the arms and I recommend having them slightly apart, like I have done.
Looks kinda crappy and 2d, right? Lets change that. Add a layer of depth by drawing diagonal lines to make the picture look more 3d.
Begin to add details on the character. If you make a mistake, don't worry! This is just a sketch.
Finish off the detail, and get your marker pen/new layer out!
Start copying/tracing your sketch. This time, use a marker pen or open up a new layer. Be sure to have a steady hand on this stage.
Finish off the Pen Drawing.
Now just erase the pencil/delete the first layer, and you're done! Stay tuned, because when I get back from holiday, I'm going to update this tutorial and teach you how to turn THIS:
