How Important is Sleep?

I consider sleep is a very important balance to have in your life. You see it keeps our bodies and minds recharged. It is a graceful time to relax in your comfy bed at the end of a long day. It is often said that the needed amount of regular sleep is 7 to 8 hours. Some may have a little more or less than that. Sleep makes us feel great the next day and makes us be able to focus, paying attention and think clearly. It keeps you healthy and lowers your stress levels. Sleep affects the quality of life you have, be sure to not sleep too much or too less. Too much sleep can be bad as too little sleep, you need to find a balance. I believe adquate sleep is one key to a good life.

But sometimes we don't want to or aren't able to get the amount of sleep we need. This could be more a number of reasons.
  • Doing Work/School Work
  • Insomnia
  • Thinking too much
  • Uncomfortable bed
  • Too much Noise/Light
  • Talking/Hanging out with friends
  • It's too hot/ It's too cold
  • Have to get up early for school/work
  • Being hungry
  • Someone bothering you
  • Too much energy
  • Staying in bed too long
  • Addiction
  • and the list goes on and on. 

Manage your Sleep

If you set up a schedule to sleep at a particular time each day, your body will get used to it and fall asleep much quicker. Although it can be hard to do this everyday, you should try to do it and not stay up too late. After messing up your rhythm, it can be hard to get back into. Try to make the conditions for your sleep appropriate, I know for a fact I can't sleep with light or noise, so I turn off all of the lights and close the windows and blinds. I once had a lucid dream, but there was an annoying ringing sound so I was forced to wake up to close the window which was left open, allowing for outside noise.

Make sure your schedule matches up with what time you need to wake up the next day. If you have to wake up at 5 AM ,go to bed earlier so you won't be as tired. If you have too much energy, you should be active during the day or two hours before bed, so when it's time for bed you'll fall asleep like (snap*)that. If someone is making too much noise, tell them that you are trying to sleep and they are too loud. If you are usually hungry when you are falling asleep, you should eat a little snack to satisfy you an hour or more beforehand. Whatever your problems are, you should find a way to fix it.

The only time that you shouldn't sleep is for special occasions or you MUST complete an assignment. If you are doing something unproductive and staying up late at night for no good reason, just do yourself a favor and sleep for a new day.

Survey Statistics 

I took these statistics from members of Planet Minecraft from the forums or in chat a couple days ago. These are just for fun and I even did include the two entries which says they sleep for 2 hours(I'm pretty sure thats a lie, but oh well.)

It looks like most people are being healthy in their sleep, though some are sleeping in too much.

According to the survey results, most of you guys feel tired and want to go back to sleep when you wake up. This is not surprising and perhaps they do need more or less sleep to avoid this.

Slightly more than half of the people surveyed indicated that they are fine with the amount of sleep they have. Still a significant amount of people did wish they had more sleep.

Uhg, a lot of the time i'm up decently late, (for me anyways) 10:00 - 11:30, some times later, like 1:00

I struggle with sleep, always have. Guess thats what I get with Autism. But I really do think it is important. I understand every word that you have said and hopefully, it may help a little knowing what more I have to do to control my awful sleep patterns.

I don't sleep, I only take long blinks. :P

I really don't get much sleep since I'm very busy and beginning to be used to not having much sleep which leads to me just becoming an insomniac.


Since that I'm 18 y/o, getting not enough sleep is normal to me. Normally, the reasons I don't get much sleep is busyness, crappy sleep schedule and uncomfortableness.
