Hey guys,
At the moment there are essentially 2 things I build. Mountains and caves. Now that the mountain part is covered the next thing to speak about are caves.
Just as in mountains there are several different types of caves. But here the differences become way more obvious.
1) Giant Caves
These caves are kinda similar to mountains, so you can build them in the same types as mountains, smooth in-depth or something inbetween. There are several things you have to be aware of that will play into building these but thats for the next guide.
Then there are canyons. Canyons are kinda like a special version of giant caves, atleast as long as the canyon is big enough. The top and the bottom of a canyon one of the most important parts here
2) Canyons
Or for a smaller canyon.
Now for canyons its essential to look at its width. It should stay the same for most of the time although it has to become narrower towards the top and bottom. You can either round it up or make a complete steep end but it has to fit the width growth you decided to build before.
Another and the most used type of caves is your usual not too big cave with some chambers and a tunnel you can easily walk through. Some chambers are probably similar to giant caves but that can always be the case.
3) Caves
For these caves the main feature is the relatively same size as long as you stay inside the small parts. The size varies a bit but it stays within certain ranges. There are nearly no secondary structures except the reverse line where the cavewalls start to go over into the ceiling.
The hard thing about those caves is that you cannot make the 'perfect' primary structures in it. You have to repeat several block sequences all over the place. Key to building these caves is to hide those similarities through winding the tunnel, varying its height just a little bit or just letting the cave be in a curve.
A straight small tunnel does not look good no matter in which direction because you can instantly see the similarities and it starts to feel off and constructed then.
I hope this was a help to you and as always if you have any questions or maybe want me to make a guide on something else in terraforming then just ask :P
Im also part of the DurinsBuilders Building Team and as expected focusing on smoothing all the terra there xD We are also looking for new members (and I am looking for terraformer to help me xD) who want to join us. Go over to their side to see how to apply.
