Hello again,

This time I wanna speak about prefered shapes. With that I mean the angles and shapes that may make your entire terraforming easier.

Someone's Guide to Terraforming: 3) Basic Techniques ("Shape-template")

In this picture you can see another little terrain I made. This one seems to be pretty nice at the first glance but if you look at the hill you will quickly notice that it is not complettely. Building at an angle of 45° is one thing you just want to avoid as much as possible because at that angle the best thing you can do is place blocks next to each other without a chance at using Variation or creating a flow.
This applies especially to mountain building or a bit steeper parts in plains areas but also to horizontal shapes. You should always try skip the 45° angle as quickly as possible.

Sometimes it is easier to slightly abandon an old plan and make a similar new one that involves a little hill or something similar just to not include the dead angle. I know the difference in this one does not look very huge but once you look at the same thing in a bigger scale the difference will be huge.

For the horizontal 45° I will use this little example

Someone's Guide to Terraforming: 3) Basic Techniques ("Shape-template")

Here the curve is made through repetition of 1 block parts and it does not look good although the wanted general shape is right. I always try to have a maximum of 2 1block repetitions and try to vary the lenght otherwise.

Although this is a very simple example its use is huge. If you start to build in these shapes from the beginning on then the smoothing later on becomes significantly easier.
There are some shapes I personally prefer to build with and in the next picture I will show these. The stone ones will be ones to establish the frontline in bigger caves and on mountains for example.

This all may or may not help you but once you have your own template of favorable shapes and how to overcome difficult areas the general building becomes easier and less frustrating since you can just use it while thinking about how to continue at the same time instead of trying to figure out how to build the more difficult parts everytime you are building them.
As always this template should contain some variation for each situation to cause less repetitions.

The same thing applies to building a template of how to make breakpoints for the terrains flow. Since it was already described what these breakpoints are in the last part I will just show some of the general shapes I have in my template.

Like you can see it just flattening out to stop the flow at the breakpoint.

I hope this helped and that all my weird terms do not confuse you. If you want to talk about terraforming or have questions just ask and I will try to answer.

Im also part of the DurinsBuilders Building Team and as expected focusing on smoothing all the terra there xD
