Heyy guys,

heres a little rant i have about 8x8's and simple packs...

I am a texture pack maker myself and i find it really annoying watching the amount of "simplistic packs" that get onto the front page. Texture packs take a lot of time, especially when your making a 16x or 32x. But seriously? these guys put down solid colours, no shading or detail and get onto the front page.

Perhaps its the minds of all the 8-13 year olds that play minecraft and go "oooh, pweety colors :3" that make them popular. But I just dont understand why all the awesome really detailed texture packs go neglected whilst these simplistic, 8x8 packs get front page and all the hype.

I know i might sound like a sook, but its just my opinion that they need to stop, you can only make so many patterns with a 8x8 it'll be soon enough before they all look the same.

So yeah, just something to think about before you guys make a 8x8. or a simplstic pack. Its a lot more rewarding if you actually put a bit of effort into a 16x, and use some detail,

GUYS -_- I am not attacking you all personally with the 8-13 year old part. Its called an example, or an idea. If you take offence to it, you are showing your as immature as I've said.

Blame OCD.

They only make the front page because people think they reduce lag, when they don't.

OCD isnt 8x8 but does that count because that is one of the most popular texturepacks

Personaly I don't like those ,,32x.'' textures. The texture pack that I don't like at all is DokuCraft. It's even not finished and it's like the most faumous ever! But I don't like those ,,1x.'' packs. It's like... Hurting my eyes too much.

I dont think they should be removed because people who have slow computers mat need to use a 8x8 texture pack or a simplistic pack.

thats a gross fact and its not true one single bit. Infact i've seen people do tests and when they used the default they had more FPS then when they used someone elses 8x8 pack.

yeah , I tested the theory that hd pack increase lag.
the results were 56fps with 128x128 and 57fps with 16x16. So its 100% not true...

Ok but some people actually like simplistic texture packs and it lets people have a shot at texture packs that are not experianced or some people like simplistic texture packs like me and i dont even have a slow computer.

I like 8x8, but there pretty annoying when there on the reel. In on working a 16x16 for my first pack.

I am currently making an 8x8 pack, and I think it looks pretty good. I want the feel of an 8bit game. I want the feels of playing the old Nintendo with my cousin. But I respect your opinion, and the bucketfill packs are more annoying than an outdoor diner with good food on a rainy day.

Half agreed, Half disagree. Yes those 8x8 , 4x4 or 1x1 stuff is Really annoying, But at least clear and fast graphics. Some of the 8x8 things are still cool, styled, not for those 8x8 sized default MC TP.
However, too much. The texture packs are made for a use, but that "use" have been used a million times --> Fast rendering, good for slow CPU.

I 100% agree with the 8-13 year old thing. I have met kids who will tell me ridiculous things about Minecraft and act like they know everything about the game. For example: "Texture packs are a feature that has not yet been added to Minecraft. The button is just there to show that the feature is coming soon." I think the reason that these packs get so many diamonds is that they don't require mcpatcher. There are some good 8x packs though. For example, this deserves a diamond in my opinion, but This does not.

I agree with what you stated here. Id also like to see the site policy change so that people need to reach a certain 'level' before being able to hit the 'report' button on packs or at least do some work and show 'proof'. I'd hate to think what the Moderators have to go through on a daily basis... wow, just wow.

Oh and by the way, whats a 'sook'? :-)

Its australian slang that essentially means someone who is complaining and acting like a baby :)

"sook"
"Newfoundland term for "cry baby" or "whiner".
One who sulks. He is a big sook. She is a sooky baby. He sooked off somewhere when he didn't get what he wanted."

MY opinion: Let people have what they want, but truly, I think between 16x and 64x packs are the best, especially when they have quite a bit of detail, yet don't look as though they do- Take BDcraft for example, it's high-res, yes; it's detailed, yes; Doesn't look too detailed, yes.
My point is, these people who make 8x8 packs, I can understand if they like the old-school game feel, or are just making their first pack, or if there are like 20 of them, but if they're literally making 100's, that's when it's irritating. People have rights, yes, but people need to know that too much of something gets annoying, irritating, even aggravating, even if it is pretty epic looking, even if it has Mod support, even if it has the most epic user in all of the Minecraft community, it just spams the reel of texturepacks, it's like those stupid Free Minecraft things from freekeys.com or whatever of all the yogscast videos.
These people who make 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512 resolution packs (usually) put so much work into their texturepacks, and they just get buried under these newbie's work(rather crap than work), because their freaking lazy to do something that actually looks good.
My main idea here is that I think people may be entitled to their opinion, but some people's opinions are the most retarded things ever.
Also, here's some irony for you: I'm actually being a bit lazy to change my texturepack's reeds, leaves and tall grass.

Well yes, this post was posted in a time of PMC when every single texture pack was a simple pack or a 8x8 pack or 4x4 or even a 2x2 :L

It was really bad for people who put loads of time into 16x 32x and 64x packs because the hype of the simple packs would take over, and the detailed packs would go both unnoticed and neglected.

I actually feel as today there is a lot of realism packs that are made using googled images. Those packs in my opinion are worse then the simplistic packs because atleast the simplistic artists used a bit of pixel art to make there texture packs

Not all 8x8 texturepacks are bad and effortless, for example Niko's Meatballcraft or Leostereo's Tiny Pixels.
But overall I have to agree with you, there are many effortless simplistic texturepacks (today a new on the front page).

Well, I have a lot to say about this. First of all, simplistic texture packs aren't all bad. Just take a look at MaxPack by Maxin. It's very simple, but a lot of work went into it, and I can say that MaxPack is my favourite pack out there!
Second of all, you can't say that certain styles are rubbish. Sure, monochrome blocks are just plain lazy, and I think they're stupid, but some people actually like that style, and don't know how to make texture packs as well! But I do agree that we only need one monochrome pack.
Finally, not every 13 year old is a 5 year old. Think before you blog.

Your 4 months too late dude haha,

As far as I know, you weren't in this community when the constant spamming of 8x8, 4x4, and 2x2 packs was happening. I pointed out things in this blog that were apparent at those times. Going on a blog thats 4 months old and out of date, and telling me to "shut up" is complete stupidness. please consider both when the blog was made, and also the writers feelings before posting hurtful, and rude comments.

I so agree. My favourite texture is Dokucraft, which is the total of hours and hours of work. The 8x8 texture packs, I find boring and uninteresting, and I feel that anything under 16x16, other than maybe one or two SimpleCraft textures, is a waste of time.
Thanks for reading,

However much I agree with you; I am not surprised that simple packs get into the reel. There are a lot of HD packs, which take a long time, and of course there are 16x16 packs which take a long time, but it all depends on style of game-play, people have different preferences. If im playing creative, I love to use simple packs, whereas if I'm playing serious, I'll use a more detailed pack for the experience. Some people may just prefer simple packs in general, and find them more appealing. Some may have the performance of their MC enhanced by simple packs and so diamond for appreciation; There's a whole spectrum of reasons, but to narrow it down, you have a whole community. A lot of people will share views, being that in this situation they might prefer simple packs, if these people all find the same pack it gets popular.

I'm not against the packs but against the sheer amount of them, like the OCD pack is the base and the only one we need, all the rest is spam. And 4x4 and 2x2 packs are becoming just like simple packs. The first 2 were something new but now there are so many and they are all the same!

PS Some 8x8s are very complex, so don't hate them
