The Lost Spirit

'Herobrine. The name that most people call the demon. The spirit. The one who all fear. He was once an ordinary Minecraft player, but all that changed after he died in a terrible accident, which I dare not to mention.

'Who am I, you may ask? I'm the one they call "Cobalt", but people sometimes refer to me as "Shadow". I was an ordinary Minecraft player, just like Herobrine, but I'm not as corrupt and devilish as he is. Now, I know that you're eager to find out what I know about Herobrine- and I'm getting there- but you must be patient. I'll just first give you a background story of who I am and where I came from, and then I'll tell you what happened when I sighted... him.'

After venturing through many forests, deserts, and swamps I finally found what I was looking for- the mountains. Although I could have settled in any of the places I saw along the way, none of them seemed hospitable. Well, not quite. They would've done just fine, but I felt like I didn't belong there. Oh, where was I- oh, yes; when I reached the peak. At the time, the mountains that I had discovered were quite old, and very bumpy. I wanted to build my base at a flat point, but I couldn't find one. Still, I felt like I belonged there, so I took chunks away from the rock, piece by piece.

Eventually, I had a flat spot where I could build my house. I decided to venture into the forest below to get some wood...

The ground below was somewhat bumpy, but it was by far smoother than the hill tops. I cut down a tree with my bare hands, since I had no other tool, and I crafted my first crafting table. The way it shimmered in the light, I finally understood how it got its magical abilities to craft items. Anyways, I carried the table up to the hilltop and finally set up shop. I took a bit of the wood to make a shelter... somewhat. It really wasn't a house, since it just has 1-block high walls, a three-block high post, and two blocks for a ceiling. Still, it would protect me from rain...

The Lost Spirit (39th; Thanks!)

Oddly enough, after I chopped down a few more trees, it started raining. However, since this was a mountain, it snowed a bit. It was on the edge between two biomes, so half of my house had snow on it, and half had rain... weird, right? Well, I set down the table in my small shelter, and crafted a wooden axe. I used it to kill a few nearby cows and so I created an item frame to place it in once it was broken beyond repair. I had taken out at least five trees with it, before that time came. I bestowed it in the frame, forever hanging on the wall.

"Pitter, patter," went the rain on half of my shelter. I remained in the tiny room for quite a long time; I lost track rather quickly (this is what clocks are for!) Eventually, once the storm has passed, I continued working on my house. Soon it became a
decently-sized mountain house that I would intend to use for years and years...

Well, sort of. The house was great, yes, but something that would happen in the near future would ruin my chances of colonizing the mountain forever. I'll tell you what happened once I get to that, but you'll just have to be patient.

I was about to sleep for the night in a bed I crafted from the wool of the mountain sheep, and I was already closing my eyes, until I saw it. The eyes. The horrible, horrible eyes of the lost one. The deceased man was watching me. I quickly got out of bed and took my new sword with me (I'd gone mining the previous day, and had already gotten an iron sword). Suddenly, I notice that he's gone. I remember that he was not inside, but at the front door. I quickly rushed outside, hoping to catch another glimpse of this apparition. Yet there was complete and utter silence. I muttered, "Yeah, you'd better stay away from my house. If I see you again, I'll truly make you sorry!" I said halfheartedly. I tried to look tough, but in reality I wasn't, and am still not now.

The morning of a new day had arrived, and I nearly forgot what happened the previous night. Nearly. Still, I got to my new daily routine of mining and gathering wood and other organic materials. Before long, yet another snowstorm occurred... I thought, "I suppose this is what I get for building on a mountain peak." I occasionally went to the other nearby mountains to sit and rest, even though they were uncolonized and cold. One day, however, when I went over to another peak, I noticed something. There was figure facing away from me, who looked sort of like my old pal, Steve. I wondered if he finally found where I decided to set up my home, and I went over to talk to him. "Steve! Over here, buddy!" I called out to him. He didn't move, and I got worried. "Steve? Come on, this isn't funny. If you came all this way just to see me, it'd make sense for you at least to look at me." The figure turned around, and revealed to me who he truly was. Not Steve...

...but the demon from the nether; the Herobrine. I grabbed my sword from my sheath, and I went to stab the devil, but he suddenly vanished. "Wait, but you're not an Enderman... Where'd you go?" I gasped.

He struck me from behind, and I fell to the cold, snowy ground. "St- stop!" I stuttered. Suddenly, he froze; a stone statue, nothing more, nothing less. Neither of us said a word, until I noticed that this was simply his... clone, I suppose. It appeared to be that he was all-powerful, and could have easily taken me out in one more strike, but he didn't. This baffled me, to be honest. I then noticed what the real Herobrine was doing. He had four blocks of Soul Sand in his left hand; three dark grey skulls in his right. It took me a moment to realize what he was doing, but it was too late. He had summoned the Wither! I panicked, and tried to flee. However, he didn't even chase after me, since he was ordering the Wither in his own, hideous language to do something awful. The second demon performed what appeared to be a nod, and then screamed, piercing my eardrums. Suddenly, I saw him do something that I never thought would happen. He blew up my house with a single projectile.

This infuriated me, and I leaped to attack him, but alas! I fell to the ground below, dropping my bag in the process. I don't remember hitting the ground, nor what happened afterwards. However, I do know that I was back where I started; a southern swamp. I was baffled by what happened, until I realized that I had died. I felt good, since my health was quenched from the rebirth, but I then realized the significance of the event. After looking up who Herobrine truly was, I couldn't find anything. It seems that Herobrine accessed my computer through his demonic powers, and wiped all of my Minecraft data for the save file I was on, plus temporarily disabled my internet. I was confused, since that meant that my Minecraft data was gone as well- and sure enough, it was. I journeyed back to the mountain, and it was clear again! That devil escaped without leaving a trace; except for the information he planted in my brain after the event. I swore never to play singleplayer again, because this was such a terrible event.

I suppose there were some interesting things about the story I told you, but they weren't cool to me. I just found this whole situation downright annoying, and never talked about it again... until now.

You know, I've been thinking; Herobrine is a thing of evil, but he also is something else- a lost spirit. He probably didn't want to be this way, but had no choice. I found out some information about his origin, but it'd be too dark to share now. Maybe another time...?

OMG! Thank you so much, guys! I never expected to be a finalist! Your diamonds truly helped, and I really appreciate them. I'm obviously not going to get into an amazing position, but 50th is already way better than I had intended or expected. Thanks. :D

To be honest, I kind of just gave up on this half-way. I'm finished with it, but it's not at all what I expected it to be. Still, it's okay for a short story, even if it's pretty predictable. Don't expect this to do well; it clearly won't. Still, I'll get a participation award, and that's good enough. :)

Of course, I just started. It's nowhere near done.
