Before we start talking about mods, I'm just going to say that I'm ok with the new launcher, I don't have any major complaints. Yet....
Ok, yesterday Minecraft 1.6.1 came out. Not only it came with horses, carpets and stuff. It also came with a new Minecraft Launcher. I like the fact you can use multiple versions on it. (I mean you can revert back to 1.5 or the 1.6 snapshots. Not like INDEV, alpha, or beta and stuff.) It also has many amazing features as well but the problem is, if you like modding your Minecraft like I do, and I don't mean installing the Portal Gun mod or the Twilight Forest by just dropping them in the mods folder, I mean installing TMI (Too Many Items,) Forge, and Optifine. Before the launcher came out, people would install those mods in the minecraft.jar, and it stayed that way since the beginning, but because of the new launcher there is a new directory. You no longer go to the bin folder we all know and love. D:
I use a Mac and I was browsing Google for like an hour and there were no good tutorials, so I looked at Windows tutorials, they weren't better. I tried using those same steps but my launcher just found errors. :P Also the Mac tutorials "claim" they work for 1.6.1, but in reality they've been uploaded a year ago and they just changed the title. :P
Plz post if you are annoyed about this as much as I am.
PEACE OUT PEOPLE!!!!!
P.S. Don't forget to subscribe to my new Youtube Channel, GokuDoesMC! (I'm not a SkyDoesMinecraft wannabe)

1. Go into your .minecraft (duh)
2.Go in the versions folder.
3. Create a new folder in the versions folder and name it something simple (I named mine modding).
4.Ã Go into the 1.6.1 folder which should be in the versions folder.
5. Copy the 2 items in there into your new folder
6. replace 1.6.1 in those two folders with the name of your new folder (in my case modding).
7. This is the tricky part, Open the Json folder with something you can type with (for windows, notepad)
8. In the document replace any 1.6.1 with Whatever you named your new folder (in my case modding)
9. SAVE EVERYTHING YOU DID
10. go into your launcher and click edit profile
11. in there is a choose version tab in there should be the new file you made. select that
12. click save profile!
Then just install the mod into the jar file.
