Multiple nuclear blasts hit the United States after a large scale war was waged upon terror organizations from foreign countries across the world. People scrambled for their home-made shelters built in their backyards and basements. Few survived, but those few formed deadly factions. They had nearly endless access to the most powerful weapons and armor. Anyone who wasn’t joined up with one of those factions had no chance of surviving. I’m Mariah, and I had left my shelter at age 10, and have survived by myself for 15 years. I have had struggles, but none have equated to the most recent. It began when the U.S government got involved.

Four main factions are in control. The Scavengers are probably the least friendly group you can meet. They spend their time raiding small settlements for spare parts. The worst part about it is that because they collect so much scrap, they have access to large amounts of items only available before the bombs went off, such as cars and non-stop working electricity.

Next are the Rangers. They are the self-proclaimed up-holders of the law. A lot of people have no choice but to like them, since they are the only ones capable of protecting settlements. They have access to many explosive devices, and their battle strategies rely heavily on traps. Multiple revolts have happened over the years by different settlements. The leader of the Rangers rules with an iron fist, which many people dislike about him.

There are also the Runners. Four or five of ‘em will group together and find odd jobs (that are normally illegal), then take the money they get back to headquarters for stockpiling. They are some of if not the richest people in the wasteland. Almost every corrupt settlement mayor (of which there are many) is an informant for the runners, and in turn, receives a hefty sum of money on a semi-regular basis.

Finally, we have the good ‘ol Government. There isn’t a soul in the wasteland who supports anything that these fools are trying to do to the wasteland.Their idea of peace is wiping out everybody except for themselves to “cleanse” the world. They only recently showed up, and nobody truly knows where they came from.

Let me tell you, stepping out from underground after living down there for (literally) your entire life is quite the experience. If I hadn’t been told about the bombs,I probably would have thought the world was always an empty wasteland of gigantic bugs and psycho murderers. First of all, the light is horrible when you step above ground after 10 years. Don’t get me started on watching five people looting what used to be your house, and then, even worse, being forced to join up with them or risk death.

Let’s just say that when age 12 struck, I was back on my own with plenty of weapons and a bad reputation. I moved on to another settlement, where I was kicked out after a month for fighting and “badly injuring” another kid. All in all, I was a problem child, and not one thing has changed since then.

When I was 16, I began mercenary work, and boy, did it suit me right well! I wandered from town to town picking up jobs for a nice price. And if somebody didn’t pay, I might aswell be wanted before I even do anything. My favorite experience was with the Runners. Apparently, someone payed them to take me out, but they never got paid to say the least.

Well, those are the basics of this wonderful wasteland I live in!

Good Luck
