•Introduction•

Hello, I am Neon Frost, but you can call me Neon, or NeFt. I am a fanfictionist, and sometimes I will also write stories from a universe of my own. This blog will tell you how to write a story! What does this have to do with Minecraft? Well, a lot of people try to write Minecraft fanfictions, and sometimes a little help on how to do it doesn't hurt :) Enjoy!

•Format•

The first thing you should know is how to format a writing story.

-People talking goes between ""

No:

Hello Jay! Cole said.

Yes:

"Hello Jay!" Cole said.

-Skip a line between talking and paragraphs.

No:

"Hello Jay!" Cole said. Jay smiled. "Good to see you!"

Yes:

"Hello Jay!" Cole said.

Jay smiled. "Good to see you!"

•Replacing overused words•

When writing, some words can often be used too many times in a row. Try to replace some words with other words that fit.

-Replace "said" with better fitting words sometimes.

No:

"Where are you?" Kai said.

"I'm here!" Zane said.

Yes:

"Where are you?" Asked Kai.

"I'm here!" Zane shouted.

-Use pronouns and name synonyms sometimes.

No:

Lloyd walked up to the cat. Lloyd pet him and it purred. "What's your name?" Lloyd asked, while looking into it's young, kitten eyes. Lloyd picked up the cat.

Yes:

(Lloyd is a boy, so you can also use him and he. Lloyd is many things, including a ninja of light, a teenager, etc. So you can also use words that are him.)

Lloyd walked up to the cat. The ninja of light pet him and it purred. "What's your name?" He asked, while looking into it's young, kitten eyes. Lloyd picked up the cat.

•Beginning and Ending a Story•

-You don't have to star with "Once Upon A Time". Begin a story in your own way! It can begin with a flashback, a conversation, a prologue, or even a history. Any beginning works, just don't be too cliché. Also, be sure to get people to know the characters before you begin an adventure in the story. You can also begin a story with a describing sentence, like the cliché "It was a dark and stormy night."

No:

Once upon a time, Kai found a magic weapon.

Yes:

The sky was warm and golden. Kai, the young, teenaged ninja of fire, found a magic weapon.

-Don't end your story with a cliffhanger! Even if your story is planning a sequel, people don't want to involve themselves in a story if it's going to end up with an unfinished feel. Make an ending entertaining and satisfying. E.g. If someone is trying to solve a mystery during the story, for Lord's sake please have them solve it before you end it!

No:

Zane walked home, knowing that he would probably never find his past. End.(If the story is all about Zane finding his past, let him at least find out some of it. If I read a story and it ended like this, I'd have a pretty disappointed feeling in me.)

Yes:

Zane walked home, knowing he would probably never find out all if his past. Yet, with the  things he HAD found out, the ninja of ice felt a wonderful, pleasing, full feeling. He knew his family, and they would always be there for him, no matter how long it takes for him to find them. End. (Leave readers knowing Zane is happy. Zane is a ninja of ice, by the way.)

-Yes, you CAN kill main characters. No, you don't have to kill anyone to give a story feelings! There are plenty of ways to give a story feels to the readers. (that would truly depend on your plot, though.) But please...don't just plain kill them. There has to be a reason. You have to add other character's reactions.

No:

A story in which Cole dies.

Yes:

A story in which Cole dies, and the other characters must learn to cope without him.

•Descriptive writing•

In English or Language classes, chances are you've learned about descriptive writing. It's the fair use of adjectives, adverbs, and other fancy words.

-Pack in the adjectives and adverbs. There is no such thing as too many. Grab a thesaurus! Look in the dictionary! Find all the fitting words ya can!

No:

Jay looked out the window. There was rain and thunder.

Yes:

Jay, the ninja of lightning, looked out the glass, dirty window. Rain pounded heavily against the clear surface and streaks of bluish-white lightning flew from the grey overhanging clouds.

•Deciding an Idea•

Now, you have all this info, don't you want to use it? In that case, you'll need a story idea, aka a plot!

-You don't have to have the whole story idea finished when you begin. You can just have the main idea decided, but you don't have to know how it ends exactly! If you like, just come up with it as you write!

-Don't use cliché ideas or endings. Readers like to be surprised. Don't make your story with the same plot as a famous book. Also, try not to have an obvious ending. People love to be startled. Depending on the type of story you're writing, suspense is almost always a good thing.

No:

A story about a boy who wants a dog. He immediately gets a dog.

Yes:

A story about a boy who wants a dog. He must go through many hard things in order to earn money to get the dog. He gets cancer, looses all the money he earned so he can afford chemotherapy, and doesn't have enough for a dog anymore. But then, the nurses at the hospital give him a dog. He fights cancer, and the dog is always at his side to help him from then on.

-Plagiarizing is illegal. YOU CANNOT TAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY AND JUST CHANGE A LITTLE! this is a form of stealing! You must come up with the ideas on your own, but it's okay to be INSPIRED by someone else's story. You just can't copy it.

No: (plagiarism example)

Someone else's story: There was a girl and she had a cat and she could not find it, so she asked an angel to help her find it.

Your story: There was a boy and he had a dog and he could not find it, so he asked an angel to help him find it.

This is an obvious example of Plagiarism. Sometimes it isn't so obvious. But please, don't take anyone else's stories.

-Fanfictioning is okay! Fanfiction is a type of story that takes the characters and the whole story from a TV show, movie, book, etc.  I love Fanfiction writing.  When you write a Fanfiction you can do anything you like with the characters. I mean, you can't change their names, or the characters themselves, you must keep them the same. But you can change what they do in any way. You can put them in any plot.

E.g. Writing a Lord of The Rings Fanfiction where Legolas dies in battle. (please don't kill Legolas though. he's my favourite.)

•Rating and Descriptions•

-Describing your story. When you tell someone about your story, don't tell them any spoilers! Please! E.g., If you write a story where someone dies in the end, DONT TELL ANYONE THAT THEY DIE. Let the readers be surprised when it happens.

-Rating your story. This isn't always necessary, but it gives people an idea of wether the story is appropriate for them or not.

Ratings: (according to the fanfiction website):

K: Story that anyone can read. Think Mary Poppins or My Neighbor Totoro.

K+: A story that is still suitable for most, but can contain more fighting or romance, maybe some suspense. Think Frozen or The Lego Movie.

T: Stories that may not be okay for younger readers. These stories are often somewhat violent, or maybe have a bit more romance than what you'd see in a Disney Movie. If you have a character die in your story, I suggest rating it T. Swearing is allowed but if your T rated story had it, it would be kind to tell people before they read. Think The Hunger Games or Lord of the Rings.

MA: Mature. Don't read if you're not prepared for adult stuff and bad swearing. I don't write MA category stories, and if you're reading this right now, I'm not very sure you should write them either.

•Thank you for reading!•

I hope this helped you out! I am happy to help! Bye now!

Awww, no randomly killing the main character for no reason!? But I like stories with random twists that end with the main character dying and the bad guy loosing for some stupid reason!

Jimmy Bobson knew he would nevver find his past, but at least the Scorcerer's Breath would be safe. He slowly lifted the small glass bottle onto the Table of Cliche Endings. He knew what was right, but still was a bit aprehensive. Crack! A dart sped out of the corner burrying itself deep into Jimmy's neck. He slumped, lifelessly, into a heap on the ground. The vile slipped from his hands, speeding out the far window. Garamir lept from the darkness. Jumping out the window. His black armor clattered as he slid down the slope. Just in time he snatched the Breath midair and skid to a halt. Panting, he smiled. Lifting the glass up to his eyes, he breathed, "Now my precious, you are mine." Then, he slipped on a loose bit of shale, where he was standing. The vile imploded on the rock. Mist poured out. All hell had broken loose. The Breath was free. It seeped into the dark lord's body. But he was already doomed. It was all over. Jimmy had been murdered and Garamir was posessed. Luckily a single tree jutting from the landscape broke the man's fall. More than the fall, in fact. It broke his spine. The Wizard's evil magic had been ended, forever. The world was saved. But not from Jimmy, by the one lone tree.
