Tips and Tricks on Promoting YOU!

content!

First thing to take into note is, you have to love what you make. Dont try to make a skin just because people look at them more often, or a friend suggests you should. Sure, maybe try it once or twice, but if you arent having fun, whats the point? So, make sure that the content you are posting is fun to make. After all, you are making content for the community for them to enjoy.

Another thing to note is, to take time on your work, and not to rush. If you rush, whip something together, and then post, people are not going to diamond your work. They are less likely to subscribe. Remember, it's quality, not quantity. For example, lets say someone is able to post 1 skin a day. However, there skins are rushed, unshaded, and WAY to noise-y (plus 1 if you understand this). One the other hand, this person post 1 skin a week, but there skins are well shaded and original. Who do you think is going to become more popular, person A or person B?

Now that you understand two of the many things that help everyone, lets get into specific things. These also apply to everything, projects, blogs, and texture packs.

One way to get out there is to enter contests, official PMC or community. This is a good thing because, 1 you have a theme assigned. The theme could be as broad as jungle, forest, light, or dark. Then they can be as fine as pink pixie, forest sanctuary, and more. When you enter a competition, there are other competitors that will look at your stuff, and maybe others if they like what you make. So, besides entering competitions for the challenge and fun, enter them for the exposure. Competitive builds are more likely to be seen be a normal “why not” build.

To be even finer about the competition idea, do skin-offs, build-offs, even mod-offs. These act in the same way as competitions, but you get even more views, diamonds, and favorites. You get more of these because the people judge you. Most likely there is a poll or whoever gets the most diamonds. Either way, a person who likes your work is going to most likely show some sort of appreciation. This also focuses down the attention of the content to you  and your competitor. Not a choice of 24 people. From personal random competition skin browsing, I can tell you that I only look at a couple things, diamond if they are good, and move on with my life. If one person does this, im probably not the only one.

For all you Server Makers out there:

If you make a server, this one is for you. Now, I don't host any servers myself, but I do mod on one and almost modded on another. These servers have been up for almost 2-3 of my knowing. They are great servers with a tight staff and good rules. These may seem like a given, but you will be surprised on how many server owners brush past these simple guidelines. Think about it: Nobody is going to go on a server that looks beat up and doesn't have some sort of protection system (assuming it is survival). It is logic.

New Server Names avoid something including “mine” or “craft”. While they may seem straightforward to what you do, almost every server includes it. So coming up with a creative name and idea is key to having a successful server.

For building there is not much to say. While making things popular in social media or life is good. Nobody will download a dirt disney castle, no-matter the skill. So my only suggestions for building are find a good palette and put forth some effort. If you try, one day you will become better.

Many people have gone over this, but I might as well, when making a blog have somebody edit it. All you are doing by posting a cruddy poem is wasting your time thinking of something that horrible. Now, if you aren't good at writing and ask for help, people will still ask why you even posted this and direct you to the forums, at least you tried.

Tips for texturing: Before making a texture pack, briefly skim over some recent and popular texture packs. Look at what works, and what does not. Then, don't copy, but think of a idea and apply it to blocks. Then, once you have made sure you textured everything, post it and hope it does well.

Shading is your best friend. Without shading, skins in short look like an un-textured video game. Try shading. If shading seems to hard or difficult for you, look up online blogs for skinning. If that doesn't work then look up just drawing in general. Skinning is like drawing but with pixels and only 2 (4 I guess) canvases. Make sure you have a reference or mental image in mind when skinning. This is helpful because then you can check as to whether or not your skin is accurate. Here is a quote for the amazing skinner Myra:

Skinning isn't so much making a technique and sticking to it like glue. It's more about using your imagination to envision how it should look in your head and letting your hands go nuts to make it a reality. It's what I've done for months, and it seems to work for me. :)” -Myra, 2015. Like Myra said, envision how you want your skin to look and let your hands and brain do the rest. Sometimes it can get a little frustrating, but forge threw.

In the end, getting your work out there and making sure it is good content can be hard, but you can do it! Presentation is key along with many other things. When the going gets tough, my fellow content creators, stay strong. “..You just gotta think. Theres so many other people who do support you, so you can't let yourself get worked up because of this one guy…” -Kireblue, 2015 (amazing person). Don't let this ever become a job. Sometimes you might be overworked, then take a break.”... I do sometimes feel like its a job, and I'm just making skins for others. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess thats when I overload myself with requests xc But when I have my requests closed, I just feel like I have so much more options to do. This is the second option, I guess. I love to make skins when inspiration strikes. Its like a phase I have xD…” Kireblue, 2015. All in all, keep up the great work and some day YOUR creation will be on the pop reel, with all those big guys. I hope this help <3.
