What I may see in the future:
Minecraft 1.8
- 1.8.0 release
Here is a shortened list of the features in the Minecraft official release 1.8:
- 3 new stones: Granite (Red), Andesite (Gray), Diorite (White)
- Slime Balls can be crafted into Slime Blocks, which bounce entities such as mobs and players in the air and, when moved, any blocks connected directly will move with it.
- New spectator gamemode (/gamemode 3) will allow you to no-clip through blocks and teleport to other players quickly
- Banners allowed very customisable logos in vanilla Minecraft
- Armor stands allow you to show off cool armors and when you right click it, the armor stand will equip you with all the armor it is displaying
- Doors, fences and fence gates now have every variant of wood
- Ocean monuments add a bunch of new blocks and the Guardian entity.
- Endermites spawn around endermen and enderchests and are basically purple silverfish
- 1.8.1 release

- The gamerule doTileDrops no longer works on entities because they have brought out doEntityDrops instead
- Jack o' Lanterns can be placed to make Snowmen and Iron Golems
- Map colors have been changed to make it seem more realistic
- Performance in the general PC and for AIs in Mobs have been tweaked to make the system faster but mobs now also no longer run from creepers
- Potions of Leaping can now be extended to II instead of just I
- Witches can now spawn in witch huts at Y=71 to increase efficiency in witch farms

Minecraft 1.9
Nothing has been specified for 1.9 yet. However, it is rumored that snapshots are in development and will be released in the near future. Although, the update has been classed as a far future update
Minecraft 2.0
Minecraft 2.0 has had an April Fools release. However, most of the additions have already been added in 1.7 and 1.8 such as Coal Blocks and Stained Glass. Some new mobs were the Love Wither and "Redstone Bugs". Torches also now burnout after a random amount of time.
