So by now you all folks jumped on the bandwagon and are looking to run servers and make a profit of 'em. Well I just wanted to show you some pointers so that you can properly run / maintain a server.
1. Staff <= IS Everything
Your staff / team / bros / etc. makes or breaks a server. All to often I walk into a 1000 slot server that runs on 16 Gigs and see it tearing apart itself to shreds. Why? The absence of staff. Your staff need to professional and dedicated to your server. Think of them as policemen, there are less likely to be hackers if you have staff on 24/7. Luckily in my case I have trusted friends in both U.S., Asia, and Europe and as result we have admins for each major timezone. Furthermore, each admin has his/her own team to run the server and as a result we have 24/7 coverage. But this is hard. I know, even awesome servers like Super-Earth have trouble doing this cause of trust issues and what not.
2. Community
The community you build will be the representatives of your server. If you walk into a server and 10 ppl call NOOBZ! That server is doomed to fail. You need to build a helpful and friendly community. Once again this is easier said then done but here's a quick tip. YOU be helpful and nice to new members. You set a precedent for other players to follow.
3. Server Specs
Some of you believe that server specs are everything for a successful server. They are not. What use is a 200 slot server if 2 members are online? And people don't join servers because they have awesome specs. They join because of staff and community. For all the new people out there who want to start servers I would suggest that the start off with a 30 slot server and slowly expand.
This was New Liberty's Model for Expansion
- Opening Week (30 Slot Server)
- By the 15th day of opening we reached server highs of 23ish people.
- Third Week: Started plans for (64 Slot Server)
- Fourth Week: Got 64 Slot Server
- Middle of Fourth Week: 50ish Server High
- Fifth Week: Purchased 120+ Slot Server
^This won't be true for most of you, no hurt intended but you must realize a pattern. We grow our server according to demand. We always make plans to upgrade if the slots remaining is less than 10. So monitor your growth!
BUT WHERE DO I GET MY SERVER!!
^ Says the noob. I cant explicitly say which one I use (that would be advertising) but just google up Top 10 Minecraft Host Providers and pick your cream of the crop!
But DO NOT get Servercraft! <= No pun intended, we lost 50 dollars on that server provider.
4. Wait I want to make MONEYZ!
Wrong, your primary goal should always to please your server community. Be helpful and get them hooked on your server. Ban those spammers and xrayers! After people are happy with your server, make them happier by doing surveys and tweaking your server to please them. Then they will thank you by donating.
5. Any Questions / Criticisms?
Just comment and I will try to dish out my knowledge and love to discuss with you CRITICS (I know you are there!)

Thanks!
I therefore strongly suggest to check out Beastnode as a server hoster. They are the cheapest and most reliable.
This is my review of it if you want to know more about Beastnode.
