Why did the blog section take a tumble?

I remember a time when a user could log into PMC and happily browse the blog section, without any issues. Unfortunately this is not the case anymore.

It's no secret that almost everyone has at one point or another looked down at this section as an easy way to level up, and this may be the case for some people. What we need to focus on, is the reason for it's existence. The blog section (in my eyes) is first and foremost a source of entertainment, for PMC users to read about, and comment on subjects surrounding their favourite game. It is important that it stays within a fine balance of mature, regular bloggers and Avid/active readers. An issue begins to arise when this balance becomes less visible to either party. So thus I begin this blog of mental ramblings, that have gathered in my mine during the past 11 months.

In order for a blogger to act mature in their blogs, they must avoid the following habits I witness in nearly all blogs I read of a late. I will start with the lack of quality in cover pictures. It is almost like the user has written out their blog, only to find that it is very common to see a picture representing a post on PMC. So they seemingly pick any picture from their desktop, with no interest in the relevance that said picture portrays.
undefined
When writing a blog, you should always think to yourself "would I be interested in reading this?" If the answer is no, do not put the rest of the community through this torture. If your answer is yes, ask yourself this; "Is it PMC or Minecraft related" if your answer is no this time, your blog will be against PMC's rules, and will not be what readers are looking for on a site dedicated to Minecraft. If it is yes again feel free to post. My reason for saying that is because often when I click a blog with a non-relevant cover picture, it is nine times out of ten 350 characters of complete garbage nobody in their right mind's would be interested in reading. On a similar topic, if your blog isn't "350 characters of garbage" make sure you don't ruin said blog with poor presentation. On occasion I come across what I call a runt (It's good on the inside, but hideous to look at) This is where a blog makes some good points, and is a relatively good read, but is ruined by a blogger trying to make it unique by trying some crazy colour text editing, and failing miserably. The best rule to follow as a blogger, is to keep your presentation plain and simple.

Another issue with the blog section is that it has simply lost it's so called "Big Bloggers" that it had about year ago. With no regular bloggers to read the works of, the blog section becomes almost pointless, especially if there is nobody to replace them. The closest PMC has to a decent blogger is ThatCobblestoneGuy, and you cannot let all the decent content rest on the shoulders of one guy, it is simply heading for disaster. If you ask me, once upon a time the "Big Bloggers" gave this section some ZING, now it is best described as a rather beige coffee table.

I have pretty much fully quit PMC, but now it's your turn...

To anyone out there, that thinks they may have content worthy of what PMC blogs used to be, I encourage you greatly to do so. Blogging can be very rewarding, and unfortunately the blogging community is not well represented anymore, but as a community it is possible to turn this around, and make blogs good again.

So get painting that coffee table.

Now I know I haven't posted a blog in a long time, but I posted this simply because I felt like writing tonight... Now don't take this blog as a comeback, or anything like that, just take it for what it is and I may post more in the future, as I do miss this site very much. Plus I have lost 2 subscribers in a year of inactivity, such loyalty xD much love.

I'd love to get into posting blogs on PMC, but I would want to post more informative things than solely entertaining things, ya know? I already tried my hand at creating one blog, which I think turned out okay, but I'd like to provoke discussion among the community.

Actually, it's not against our rules to post somethng that isn't Minecraft or PMC related. Just wanted to clear that up so no one is misinformed by this blog.

I agree with this. Bloggers... they just aren't as creative as they used to be. Some bloggers, however, are very smart and have created wonderful works of art. I love reading blogs from time to time, but it gets old reading all the unimaginative ones. If you'd like to check out some of my blogs, I welcome you to do so.
