I'm going to admit, when I found out about this manifestation of human greed, I was mad.
So, here are some statistics and facts.
Up to 700,000 tonnes of sharks are brought to land each year.
You are more likely to be killed by a vending machine than by a shark.
Shark fin soup is tasteless, chicken or pork is used to flavour it.
You have a 1 in 3,700,000 chance of being killed by a shark.
100 million sharks and rays are killed each year by bycathing.
You are almost as likely to be killed by a coconut than by a shark.
Shocking, sad, statistics.
But what is this show, Shark Hunters? You may think it is just a show about people fishing for sharks with a rod and line, then throwing them back to their home. But you would be wrong, so very wrong. Here are some pictures:
*Shudders*
But, you may say. Surely they are only fishing for shark species that are common and plentiful in numbers?
They catch Mako sharks, Thresher sharks and Porbeagle sharks.
All listed as vulnerable by the IUCN red list.

But sharks are killers who attack humans, right?
Wrong again.
If you've read the statistics above, you may be convinced, but here are a few more:
You are more likely to be killed by falling out of bed than by a shark.
You are more likely to be killed by a ladder than a shark.
You are more likely to be killed in a horse riding accident than a shark.
You are more likely to be killed by a dog than by a shark.
You are more likely to be killed by a toaster than by a shark.
Sheesh, and sharks are the bad guy?
So I think you can see why this show deserves to be cancelled. Sharks hold an important place in the ecosystems of our oceans, and killing them would upset that fragile balance.

It's just a sport, there's no economical reason to kill sharks.
Sniff sniff.
