Good day to you fellow planet-minecraftians. Today I would like to let out my opinions on something that is SO EASY to do that you'd have to either be a complete noob (Or just unaware which can happen) or just plain evil to not do:
FOLLOWING THE SUBMISSION RULES!

Now I know this has been going on since forever but I'd like to write this blog in the hopes of guiding members new and old into seeing the flaw of their ways. Today I will solely aim this concept at the horrors I have seen in the skinning submissions using true tales from my browsing adventures. For the BEST possible reading experience check out the rules for skins (And in general) yourself so that you hopefully will not find me reporting your submission.

1. Nude skins;
What is a nude skin? It can be anything from an unshaded skin with solid coloring and slight body-detailsĀ  (If you know what I mean) to some sort of expertly shaded skin that has no clothes therefor showing offensive parts. Now thankfully I almost never see these but when I do it SICKENS ME! These skins are not only rather stupid but they are actually disturbing. I have nothing against the human body but a pixelated NUDE skin is just not right. I even saw one profile that had uploaded a good 12 of these nude skins and the worst part was the lack of even ONE single REPORT!

2. Steve/Herobrine Skins
The rules not only state that unoriginal content is not allowed, they also specifically mention steve skins! Seriously, this is the default skin from minecraft, you start off with it for crying out loud. Submitting this is something only a complete noob would think of doing. Its wrong and rather pathetic, do not EVER do it. This goes for slightly changed, re-colored version of Steve or any sort of bloody herobrine skin! This is a big NO NO! Again not a single report, what's going on guys?

3. Solid Color/Scribble Skins
What is a solid color/flat skin? Well its a skin that is either solidly the ONE shade of colour and may even have a few different pixels for eyes or a sword on the back. NO! It is still a solid colored skin even with some outlines (E.g the outlined boxy/robot skins) still count as flat skin. The lack of effort or beauty in these skins is incredible, the same goes for scribbling all over the skin model/files and posting it as a piece of work. Nothing wrong with an unshaded skin because we are all learning but a skin with no thought for detail, originality or variation in appearance across the model if just pathetic. Not one report, in fact these skins are almost never reported.

4. Other unoriginal skins
There are a great number of skin concepts that are basically taboo. Here is a nice little list of the ones I believe should never be addressed again!
- Steve skin
- Herobrine
- Mob/ mob in a suit!
- Teen skins (Unless you're going to make it unique in design and I don't mean colour then just leave this concept alone!)
- Assassin's creed skins (These are used too often so I believe its had its time)
- Many more that I either don't know of or can't remember, I'm less experienced in submissions then others.

Now I congratulate you for making it this far. I'll admit there are a lot of examples like this in the projects and blog sections as well but the majority of this sort of stuff that I've seen occurs in the skinning section.

So the major point I'm trying to make is not only are people constantly violating these simple rules that were designed by the cyber-engineers and techno-imps of planet minecraft to keep the submissions of good quality, the issue I wish to present is the lack of reports.

I've almost never seen any reports when I've surfed the new submissions, usually about 1 in 100 (If not worse then this or better) is reported of the 100 skins that break the rules. Personally I take a moment here and there to brows 5 odd pages of recent submissions and just report anything that breaks the skinning laws. It is helping the site more for me to spam the mods with LEGIT, JUSTIFIED reports then for these low quality rule breakers to slip under the radar.

Now ask yourselves, do you just pass up when a submission breaks the laws? Do you even know them yourself? Take some time to read the few rules we have on this site about submissions and maybe even go so far as to help clean up the community. Should a new guild even be formed? Perhaps the "garbageman" of the submissions of pmc?

Shadow out...

Is it against the rules to make a skin that is just plain old white?

I'm not 100 percent sure but I doubt it. Personally I have a skin that uses 3-4 colours because I'm not a shader but its not quiiite simple. I'm not sure but having a white skin with 4 black pixels violates the rule and the outline  boxy robot neon skins do as well but skins like yours should be fine. If you're worried get the opinion of the pmc chat.

I totally agree on most things you've mentioned in this blog, but you can't expect everyone to be good at detailing skins, you say that "no thought for detail, originality or variation in appearance across the model if just pathetic.". Remember Minecraft is a family type of game to many, meaning much younger children play, not all of them are going to be imaginative, artistic geniuses that are brilliant at shading skins, they see other people posting awesome skins and they then might gain a hunch for wanting to publish a skin of their own, maybe even similar because they've been motivated. All I'm saying is everyone starts off somewhere and it's true, people learn from their mistakes. So if someone publishes a less detailed skin and doesn't get good feedback on it, they'll remember to do better next time.

You know what, thanks for saying that. I guess I might have been to harsh. What I'm trying to say is its pathetic to see steves so often though, I just thought it was clear by now that this sort of stuff is bad even for beginners. I don't try to bag on lack of detail or shading but there's an extent to which its lower then just beginner but I am not one to point a finger at unrefined skinning ability so I apologise if this is offensive to those who are learning. Again, the idea of this rant was to bag on people breaking rules and doing things that just shouldn't be done.
