Hello,

so my friend wants to build his PC, to be able to run everything and anything. Can anyone share the builds they can come up with, preferably someone experienced.

Thanks in advance!

PC will be used for playing newer games like DOOM and for producing music.

A Ryzen/1080 Ti build will be perfect. Recent Windows and BIOS updates have brought Ryzen's game performance up enough to rival the likes of the 6700K and 7700K. I don't see a point in getting an i7 when you can get the same game performance plus an insane amount more compute power for the same price.

Below are some benchmarks of a 4GHz 1700X with various RAM speeds up against a 5GHz 7700K with fast memory.

Without knowing what the computer will be used for or what peripherals are needed, here is the parts list I came up with.

Here's my list of parts...
I've also used a part of these parts, but you can definitley find better parts for cheaper, im just too lazy for that right now.
I'll be comparing to the other guy's idea for a build.
2500€ is about 2700$ by the way.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TqgXpb
Also, you will want 2 of the Dynatron coolers. Not just one. PcPartPicker wasn't allowing me to add another one for some reason. And YES, all this fits your budget and is compatible.

My idea is a server based build, the only disadvantage here is really the DDR3 ram, but that's not too bad, many videos show that more ram is better than fast ram.

Casing:
Him : Corsair - Carbide Air 540 black
Me : Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case
His casing is honestly better when it comes to what's included...

Processor:
Him : i7 7700K (4 cores, 4.5 GHz, 8 MB L3 Cache) [Theoretical power = 4 x 4.5 = 18]
Me : Dual (2 processors ) Xeon 2670 (Total of 16 cores, 3.3 GHz, 40 MB L3 Cache) [Theoretical power = 52.8]
It's also possible to record, edit and play AAA games like Battlefield, i've tested it myself on the same processor.

Motherboard / Mainboard:
His : ASUS ROG Strix Z270F Gaming
Seems like a good MODERN bet, but has only 1 CPU slot, and fewer ram slots. You probably won't be needing USB 3.0 because you have more than enough for 2 SSD's. His supports overclocking, but running my build you will probably not be using all that power.
Mine :
EP2C602-4L/D16
Supports Dual CPU. Only DDR3 Ram though but many slots. Also supports SLI and Crossfire like his motherboard.

Graphics card:
His : He's gone with the EVGA GTX 1080 which has only 8 GB OF GDDR5X.
Me : GTX 1080ti is running perfectly for me without any bottlenecks. And it has 11 GB of VRAM compared to his 8 GB.

RAM:
His : 16GB DDR4-2666 Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x 8GB)
16 GB is slowly becoming quite common... Upgrades will be needed soon. DDR4 wont matter because more ram matters rather than speed as proved in this video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDlFyd6GS6g
Me : Mushkin 64 GB DDR3. This uses only 4 out of the 16 slots giving you 512 GB of RAM worth of potential upgrades.

Storage :
Him :
SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO (540MB/s read, 520MB/s write)
HDD: 1TB Seagate BarraCuda (64MB Cache, 7200rpm)
Optical Drive: DVD-Brenner 24x ASUS DRW-24F1MT
With your budget a hard drive isn't worth it. SSD's are better/faster.

Me :
Boot SSD : 30 GB Corsair Nova SSD
Main SSD : 2 TB Crucial SSD
Optical Drive : Lenovo 0A65618 DVD/CD Writer
As i've said, SSD's are faster than HDD's. And this is a slightly more spacey machine.

PSU (Power Supply Unit) :
Him : 550W Corsair RMx Series
Me : Xion 850W ATX Power Supply
Yes, I understand this machine uses quite some power, but looking at your budget you can probably more than afford these bills. My power supply comes with a nice Blue LED RGB fan.

Cooler:
Him: Corsair H80i v2 CPU-Water cooling (new Modelll!, with 2x Corsair 120mm Fan)
Me : Dynatron R13 2.5 CFM Ball Bearing CPU Cooler
Water cooling is definitely better, but considering the fact you wont need that much cooling with the amount of power my processor has, it wont change much.

Good that you have decided to go for a custom PC.
Don't worry, PCPARTPICKER has a compatibility filter you can try there next time Have fun.

Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X (EVGA SC Gaming)
RAM: 16GB DDR4-2666 Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x 8GB)

Its better to make one your self than pre-made. Since I am not best with hardware you sure those components fit with each other? As I remember once my friend bought a GPU only to find out it doesn't fit to his board.
