I'm in the process of setting up my first server here are the current plugins

mcMMO
No Cheat
Iconomy
Shopchest
Essentials
LWC (Will remove if factions is installed)
NoCheat
Izone (will remove if factions are installed)

I like the idea of mcMMO, having an economy and shops in my server as well as a way to protect houses and chests with LWC and izone. I can't decide wether or not to use factions, I like the idea but the whole land claiming could make the server go either way. I really want to enable PVP and groups of players in certain areas bu I'm not sure I want it as my main focus, any suggestions?

Ok well personally i think you should have factions and make it a hardcore pvp server with raiding and griefing allowed. Trust me you will get tons more players. also i would recomend getting Group-Manager and permissions. Also if you need help building spawn i can help

Can i have the ip please maybe i can get a friend on it too and also make sure if you want people make it pvp griefing raiding allowed just a tip

Mob arena and heroes are good plugins for the kind of server you want, World edit is also good as it makes building much easier.

I have group manager and essentials extra installed forgot to add them to the list. I like the idea of PVP but the thought of having to moderate it seems like it could be a problem. Also whilst again I like the idea of factions i'm unsure how to keep it on the level so to speak so that players don't take advantage and make the game not be enjoyable for other players.

I will release the IP address once I have had a better look at the permissions if you were to join at present you wouldn't be able to even build on the default permissions.Also I have whitelist enabled so you would have to tell me your username in order for me to add you. I am aware that more people would join if it was more PVP focused but how many pure griefers would this likely to attract.

I also have questions about player privileges, how bad is it not to let people teleport around the map and respawn to back to where they died. Some of these options feel like cheats to me. Is this stance likely to cause problems?

I was half thinking that if I didn't but factions on I would use Izone to protect the spawn and then use a teleport mod and create a PVP area where players can go and PVP if they wish and the other policy being not to grief players that want to just mine and build. Set up LWC so that players can lock their doors and chests and go that route.

Seems I am a little stuck on what to do right now. Thanks for the plugin suggestions I will take a look.

Why is there no need for Izone, do you mean by using factions safe zones?

No but if its bukkit it should come with world edit and then download world guard its very simple

Looking in the plugins addons on the server I can see World guard so I will also give that a go. Have you had much expierence with faction servers, if so what are they like and do you see many problems when playing. I am just concerned for players that want to be more into the building and exploring aspect that are not interested in the PVP. I myslef and more interest in playing the mcMMO and having the occasional PVP battle but I am worried that factions will ruin that side of the game?
