Do all skins need shading?

I use shading most of the time, but for cartoony skins like my Castle Crasher ones, shading doesn't seem necessary and I think it could possibly ruin the skin. Thanks for your help!

I Agree, you don't always need shading, a skin can look good without it as well! However, I also believe that shading is needed to create quality and good skins, so I'm a little on both sides. I have seen good skins with both shading and good skins without.

You need too. As Zitzabis said, even 3 shades are enough (2 for small are). If you use dithering properly, you can make amazing skins with 3-4 shades.

Yes, you need an element of shading in all skins to provide form. Even simplistic skins need at least 3 shades (in my opinion). Generally, you need a shade for the shadows to separate the limbs, a center shade for the colour and a third shade to provide highlights in the correct locations.
