I have beat the enderdragon multiple times although I don't consider any of those to be 'legitimate' due to a recurring bug that keeps the enderdragon from dealing any damage. You basically just stand there and melee the crap out of him as he pushes you around xD
For beating the enderdragon 'legitimately', it seems that by the time I'd have enough resources to beat him in one world, I've already moved onto a different world (usually a new version of MC).

I remember my try to complete the game. I was almost there, and then I used TMI to get to the end and kill the Enderdragon :)
