3 months have passed since my last upload to PMC
So, naturally, it was about time to get back to work!
I will handle this project the exact same way as last time when I build this: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/ ... ttleships/
Meaning that YOU get to tell ME what you want to see in this one hell of a build when it is done and I promise you to give everyone's input a try. If it fits the what we already have and gives the build that one special bit - It will most likely stay in the final version that will be shared as a download for everyone and you get the credit for suggesting that part. Sounds not that bad, right? Give it a try!
As the build progresses I will share thoughts, pictures and prototypes of parts of the build in this thread frequently. Every time something gets added to the build that is worth mentioning you can be sure to find it here.
Alrighty then, Let's get to the build already, shall we?
The base we start off with. Pretty basic and not very interesting. Everything is a placeholder right now. The shape was created in Microsoft paint off of this "picture" I created using the Curve Tool that looked like this:
I created a heightmap from that using worldpainter and cut it out. then shaped the hull's belly and formed it around that shape to create the body.
If this looks small to you, check this out:
Next, I covered all of the openings for ventilation and closed the hull with a double layer of wooden planks making it way more shippy than it was just a second ago.
Looks like something, right?
Engines are always a good idea... especially if you don't want to stay in one spot.
The new project's main cannons (right) compared to Brynhildr's main cannons (left). The autoloaders and one barrel had to be sacrificed to fit the much faster new ship but they feature two machine guns.
two of them found their place at the front end of the ship.
Connected the sides.
Cut the ship in half to speed up progress. Added engines from the valkyrie class ships, gave the hull very very rough detailing and WINGS
Basic superstructures and the place for the engine fueling system.
First row of AA-batteries (This thing is meant to get rid of swarming planes)
Mirrored it looks like this. Getting somewhere, right?
"Large projects do not have to lack detail." They don't. Also, we changed the color to red!
Closeup of some of the detailing.
Front wing and more AA
Made the wing smaller and split it into two. More detailing!
Last picture of today's progress. 50%red wool, 50% red stained clay make the hull much more interesting and those armor plates will serve the ship's style nicely.
Poll will start soon!

Wow man looks really great

You could build a blue background to mask out the world background, made out of blue wool and use it to make animation like the way they use a blue screen to do models in Star Wars for CG graphics. Then all you would have to do is edit out all the blue wool in your animation slides and replace it with a space background or the background of your world's terrain. You can change the distance and angle you record your view of the ship too then you zoom in or zoom out while your recording the video. Then plug all the animation slides together in the right order, add some sound in the background and you got a movie like those Star Wars Lego movies...
I hope that made sense

No need for such a painfully complicated way of doing it. The entire build can be turned into an object that can be animated using blender or other software with a couple of clicks. don't have to greenscreen (or bluescreen...) it.

You should add some small pods or something to drop out of the ship in case of an emergency. I'm thinking 'Mother of Invention' style.
1
Oh yeah... emergencies. Haven't thought of that :L
Just stuff 'em in the cruise missile launch silos!

What's your favourite? You can now chose from Pure White, Deep Black, Red, Yellow, Oranger Tiger Pattern, Green Camo and Blue!
Final little touches, then the build will be up in the projects section!
Have a Wallpaper!

Engines are now running on full blast and the back section is finished as well.
Only thing left is the rest of the superstructure and the hangar interior.
1
Final little touches to the belly. Then moving back to the superstructure.

Some really impressive results after playing around with the colors.
How about this tiger paint?

HUGE UPDATE!
Phew, that took a while, did it? *looks back at last post*
Well... a day.
So what's happened?
A lot actually.
Serious armor plates now cover the once vulnerable main engines and a new part of the superstructure that sports 6 AA turrets guards and covers it.
The side engines have been connected to the hull but there is still a bit left to add there
The hangar has been reworked to being slightly darker so it doesnt immediately stand out of the parts surrounding it.
The superstructure now has some rocked pods added to its weaponry
The large armor plate behind the gunship hangar is now split in 3 parts and shows the heat ventilation behind it, also making the look of it fit the surrounding parts.
Lots and lots of greeble has been added to the underside of the ship but that is not entirely done.

Varying height and spacing between those cannons makes them far more interesting than putting them all on a straight line with no variation at all.
Try it for yourselves, it's amazing!

Wow, this just keeps looking better and better. I can't wait to see it completed.
By the way, are you working on interior rooms and such? If so, it would be nice to see screenshots of that.

I can't promise to completely fill the ship, but it will feature interior such as hangars
And thanks for the amazing feedback!
Never thought to get so much coming back from everyone

Radar array is online!

even more armor plates....
....and scary cannons!
1
Wait is this a cruiser now or is it still a carrier?
1
I... I don't know. It's a c..c.. wait
It's a carriuser

Awesome! Looks sweeet!

WIP of the bridge.
1
Greebly and armor plating at the front.
That new cutout to the right will house one of the radars.
1
The armor plates have glowstone on the inside giving the ship a very intimidating glow at night
1
Woahh this is pretty cool
1
Thank you!
1
Does it involve dropping bombs? (I am very destructive )
1
No I don't think so as it is more of a floating ship than an attack bomber
1
i expected cancer
this is epic

You what? Why would you?

Add laser cannons from the sides dude!
1
Laser cannons wouldn't fit in the universe this ship will be in but I do agree on adding armament to the sides!
Let there be cannons!
Let there be cannons!
1
Nah, the laser cannon has to be just like, one giant one that shoots out of the front of the ship.
1
Interesting. I really considered putting a single, overkill cannon in there but it would destroy the ship's purpose. However, I have a surprise coming up that will have something to do with those large openings at the bottom
