Hey,
I'm being teased at school for playing Minecraft. I love minecraft. I love how the community is so kind and friendly. I'm 15 and not sure how playing minecraft is a problem to the teasers.
Does anyone have any tips on how to address the Teasers?
Do you have any stories, or experience?
Lets brave through this together,
nuclear_kid

Ignore it. All of it.
You'll get older, and wonder why you ever cared what other people thought of you.

I used to get teasted a bunch for stupid things, mostly name calling. I never got "beat up" or physically hurt but they called me names and told people lies about me. I got made fun of for my interests and being a furry. They started rumors about me and told people my secrets. Everyone knows things you do at my school since there is only about 700 kids there in 4 different grades. Highschool sucks...
1
Buddy, just ignore them... Nothing AT ALL is embarrassing or wrong about playing a blocky game.
Remember that this is a game for all audiences, so don't let their butts stop you from anything.

Well I get teased about playing Minecraft and being a nerd! But I don't care, I make them shut up by either throwing a comeback at them or just cracking a joke! I mostly come up with the comebacks days later though but sometimes I have them ready! So try to make them laugh or everyone around them laugh at them, and that will make them go away!
1
It'd be nice if people could notice the unlimited potential behind this game. For me, it's honestly not a great game until you get into redstone and command blocks.
1
-snip- That usally works. But seriously everyone has played this game. Hell, NFL star Chris Kluwe plays it. So does GOT actor Kristian Nairn. So many people. Jack Black, Deadmau5, Mila Kunis, Jonathan Ross, Andrew W.K, and so many more. It's a fun game, but gets a bad rap from the young community. My solution? Tell them "yes, the community is toxic, but the game is fun for all ages" or something like that. Or make a diss track, the kiddies seem to be doing that these days.

Ignoring bullies may help at the beginning but only at th beginning (don't do that), they'll start to become more violent and it ends up to a serious thing. People used to bully me because I was the youngest and smallest of my class (which is still the case) and because I watch anime and play video games. I would suggest to try to talk to them about it or prove them that you have an amazing talent. That's what I've done, being the youngest turned up to be an advantage because I got really good marks in every tests, I proved them that I'm not a weird vampire geek or something like that.
So, show them something you can do with the object of their bullies and it should resolve by itself

People in my school used 'Minecraft' as an insult and make fun of other people at my school who play it. I've never really told many that I play Minecraft because I'm afraid the insulting will be directed to me. One time, I was talking to my friend and I said something about Minecraft to them and some kid was ease dropping and said "You play Minecraft?" in this childish voice and I just ignored them. The insulting always makes me feel I'm too old to be playing and I should stop (I'm 15) which usually makes me play less and less.

Well, I don't suggest ignoring your bullies, and I especially don't encourage intimidating them. My suggestion for that kind of stuff is a positive reaction. For example, some people at my high school tease me for liking Pokémon, so I'll say, "Oh well, it's your opinion, not mine." I also suggest using your talents against them, since I draw Pokémon in class with nothing but sharpies and a few colored pencils. That shuts them up pretty quick. My last suggestion is to do something that builds your confidence, just like martial arts did for me.

I know another way. As others have said, tell a joke! Laugh away, and the bullies will be super confused and possibly leave you alone.
Or you could just try to laugh away the pain...

I'm still playing Minecraft and I'll be a senior in HS next year. The key to not being made fun of is to not mention it. For that matter, don't mention any form of playing video games in high school, unless it's a secluded group of people who you're sure play video games too.
If I were you, I'd also adopt another hobby other than video games, that way you've got another thing people recognize you as instead of "that kid who plays video games all day".

I have a story!
So two years ago, I was as big into Minecraft as I am currently. I also had this best friend named Ryan, who happened to be autistic. We'd sit and talk about Tekkit Classic, Hexxit, and factions, and it would be a really fun time. Then people started realizing that I talked to Ryan and I loved Minecraft. I've always been bullied, ever since Elementary school, so naturally, I hate people. Ryan used to bring in these little paper Minecraft things, like a torch, a few blocks here and there, but the coolest thing was when he brought in a miniature villager house. (The L Shaped House) Now, he'd really only bring them to lunch, since he had art class right after.
We loved to talk about Minecraft, and even worked on wooden projects together in art class. We got made of so much, but seeing him happy, and being naiive to the people giving him all of these insults, made it the best feeling I have ever felt off of being with someone struggling.
One day, the day he brought the house, a group of kids thought that they were so cool, and they took his house from him, stomped it down and tore it to shreds. He cried the entire block, and the kids got away with it. No, it didn't really affect me, just increased my hate for them, but it eventually did. Later that day, I went to the restroom, and I'm assuming that the same kids had been skipping class, because they followed behind me to the restroom, and I was ganged up on by four kids; got my head shoved in the toilet, urinal, I was beaten, kicked, and choked.
After that happened, the kids got detentions, but I was still left, wanting revenge. So around a year ago, I did end up getting my revenge, one by one. Ryan was working on modelling plastic, and he remade his villager house, but out of plastic. (Which honestly still looked great even in paper) Here came the kids again, and stomped it to pieces. At that point I decided that I have had enough. Within the week after that, I tracked their classes, when they normally left their classrooms, when they skipped, and what classrooms they were in, and one by one, I followed behind each one on different days, pulled them aside, and completely trashed on them. That gave me 3 Saturday detentions, a Friday detention, and almost a police referral for assault, but Ryan couldn't have been happier. For the rest of the year, before he was moved to a foster home (Dad had charges on him), no one bugged him. Now, they focused on more even more, but I didn't really care.
To Ryan, Minecraft was an escape from these people. It was a place he could go and instead of concentrating or struggling with complex human interaction, he could actually be himself, talk the way he talked, and sit behind a screen feeling more comfortable and assertive about himself.
End of my story! Not the bullying, though! D':
More detentions for me!
P.S. if anyone wants to chat sometime, whether it be to simply have a new friend to play MC together, or to talk about problems in your life, come talk to me! I do have Skype! Just add me!

Probably shouldn't encourage violence, but I think what you did was pretty cool.

I've dealt with bullying ever since I started going to school, so I know how it feels. People used to joke about me liking Minecraft and Pokemon. The day I learned to stand up for myself is when a girl was making fun of my friend's dyslexia, calling her stupid and treating her like a dumb child. It seemed to really bother her, so I took a stand for her. Nowadays, if anyone makes fun of my taste in video games, my ADD, or just anything in general, it doesn't bother me. I can always stand up for myself and accept who I am. My case in point? You're stronger in numbers. Find another person that is being bullied. They're probably bullied for some of the same reasons you are.
1
nuclear_kidMan i loved what Histor had to say!
Thanks heapsGot bullied a lot in middle to early high school. Ended up finding one thing that basically eliminated it: humor. If you can laugh, they stop caring. If you can, make a joke out of something they say. Odds are they don't actually know anything about Minecraft if they are hating on it. Even something along the lines of"Yeah its a really fun game you should try it" may throw them off.. Good luck crafting and dealing with real world!
Man, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY BOOKS ARE ABOUT THAT. Bullys KNOW now. All you can try is to befriend them even if they hurt you just ignore them and don't tell the teachers, they'll think you're a nice kid and you'll get on your side. Bully's don't KNOW about that one. I tricked 'em when they bullied me for being a grammer freak.
1
Don't let them see that you're annoyed or upset, because if they do, they'll continue. If you ignore them, they'll eventually stop.

Honestly i have two suggestions:
Let it go. Don't say anything.
Or say: I bet y'all don't know anything about architecture because minecraft helps you a lot in that geometry class. LoL nerds.
BUT THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY WAS MY WAY.
I know, in kinder garden a LONG LONG time ago i had a guy who was my friend who punched me kicked me and all of that, but i was fine i still was his friend, and in the end we've been friends since kindergarten and now we're best buds like 7 years from then.

When I get bullied or teased..............
I snap back at them with fancy elaborate words that they can't understand.
In that way they don't know what to say. I'm still hurt tho

Just ignore them, the worst thing is when you say a joke and someone looks like they didn't hear it, or turn to them and say "Wha? Didn't hear ya"
Also, a lot of this stems down to ye not having a set uniform in school. I mean if you're wearing MC shirts to school it should be expected someone is going to comment, negatively or positively. If you can't handle that then don't wear the shirt.

Yea just ignore them or say a joke back to get them laughin' or leavin'. Guys who do that only do it 'cause they're bored and looking for something entertaining, so if you ruin their fun, or better yet make some new friends from it, they'll most likely leave you alone afterwards. If they're actually being bullies by messing with you and/or taunting you constantly, then it'd probably be best to ignore and/or avoid them.
As some words of advice, there's no such thing as a maximum age limit on video games, I'm 18 atm and I still play this game, I know a 19 year old who plays this game constantly and has a horde of mods loaded on it, and I used to see a bunch of guys playing it on computers at the library, until they were told to stop and leave, though. Being 15 and playing this game is literally the average age limit, and those guys are just being dumb for the sake of passing time.

Have you tried ignoring them? People have tried to bully me in the past but they could never get around the problem of me not caring.

Tbh, I can't really relate to being teased/bullied about playing Minecraft. For me, it's mostly about religion, which really ticks me off.
But when I get teased about it, I kinda just... ignore it. Trust me. If you ignore them long enough, they'll stop. Bullies want REACTION out of their victims. So if you don't give a reaction, they'll stop bullying you and move on to a different person. If that doesn't work, tell an adult or a teacher. The adults have had experience with being bullied before, so they know how to deal with them. Plus, they do have more authority over the bully, even if the bully doesn't think so otherwise.

I'm 18, i still love and play pokemon. My sister is 24, she still loves and plays pokemon. And animal crossing.
Being too old for a game doesn't say much.... except for if it's one of those learning games, like dora, barbie, barny etc

Stick Up For Your Self And Either Show Them Minecraft Is Epic Or Use Your Wittyness and make comebacks or tell them that terrieria or there favorite game is boring

Simple comeback. They're too dumb to understand the glory of minecraft. Their puny human brains can't comprehend the legendary algorithms and geometry levels required to play the game Mnecraft. They can sit around, gunning down random bots in call of duty that only have 3 lines of code, or they can tactically eliminate the zombies that have more 0s and 1s in their code than there are numbers in the universe. Tell them that their skinny frat boy frames would be crushed under the pure magnificence that is, Minecraft. Indulge in their stupidity as they laugh at you as you try to explain to their hollow skulls what the god Minecraft is. Too much? Nah...

I'm 11 and I have been playing Minecraft for 3 years. Its become a part of me.
I was in art class this school year (6th grade) and some popular kid sat at my table. I wore a Minecraft sweater to school that day, not because I'm exactly a nerd at the game but I just thought the ocelot ears were a pretty cool feature. Anyway, the guy made fun of me of playing a game I love. It didn't matter that he loves sports and I love video games. Its his loss. Plus, if you really look around, you'll find some weirder kids that love Minecraft too. Trust me man.

The thing is, regardless of whether or not you play Minecraft or not, if they're bullying you they will find something to bully you about.
I used to be bullied when I was 7-11 years old because I read books that were considered 'hard' and 'difficult' for my age range. They also bullied me whenever I decided I want to enjoy a book with pictures in, in which they proceeded to take it and tell me to go read something I could do (like what).
I'm 21 now and people still bully me, but I merely believe that's just because the bullies have insecurities with themselves. Therefore, I have become the bigger person and understood that as the bigger person, you ignore what they say and you just start to realise that you're not alone.
Like everyone has said, ignoring them is the best way to go. Reporting them also helps, but if you just stick with your own friends and don't take everything they say to heart (which I know is difficult when you're at school and you're at an age where friends and the way people view you is important) then you'll do fine.
I don't know I rambled on, I don't know if this help lol

Yeah if you react then you are basically giving the bullies what they want so if you just act like you really don't care what they have to say then they will probably just get bored and stop bullying you

nuclear_kid, let me tell you I get the same problems. Just shrug 'em off. I've got tons of friends that play Minecraft at the school, but I'm really the only one open about it. Wearing my fanboy shirts for YouTuber's such as CaptainSparklez and being like one of the few people at my school who watch Steven Universe (phone case) .Just don't associate yourself with those people as much as you do any other person.
In my case they actually do.
JohnanaterI can (almost) guarantee that they play Call Of Duty and buy the new one every year.

Grown men play it. 20 year-olds play it, teenagers play it. Minecraft is just virtual imagination, so it's attracting ro most people. You can play all sorts of games in Minecraft, so purchasing the game is like getting a million things in one purchase. If they think it's boring, who cares. Plus, it's not like they really think that Minecraft is dumb. Everyone knows that nobody can resist Minecraft. It's like the Krabby Patty in Spongebob. ._.

Id just let it slide, most people that pla minecraft can easily go into engineering and make a goof profit or life, you can build structures and then implement then into real life using minecraft as a 3d blueprint. I'd say just do what you like

Roast them with facts.
Plenty of schools use Minecraft in their curricula. The majority of the friends I've made through Minecraft and Planet Minecraft are 14 or older. it's a creative game, not a children's game; it's not just a game about placing blocks, people have made legitimate word processors and calculators in Minecraft before.
Alternatively, remember that you're far better than anyone who sinks low enough to make fun of someone for liking a video game, and act like it. Laugh and shake your head and call them silly kids.

I was teased, but for a different reason.
Not very far apart from my liking of Minecraft.
I used to wear Nikes and everyone wore Jordan's.
They teased me for having 'Cheap' shoes.
There was this one kid who just constantly annoyed me, so when we were in Gym.
I took his shoe and threw it in the Toilet....

No offence or anything, But chance's are, if your getting teased about liking Minecraft, then your probably making it very obvious to people, making yourself vulnerable to attacks. Now they have ammo to make fun of you with. So stop wearing that Creeper shirt your mom got you 6 years ago and get with the style.
Hey,
I found this a little hard to read. I feel like you are telling me to throw away my passion, almost my identity, to be accepted by others.
I really hope this works for others, but for me, I just have to be me. and if I'm passionate about minecraft, people are going to have to accept that.
Love to hear anyones thoughts on this,
nuclear_kid
