Building The Earth One Block At A Time!

You read a lot about how the world of Minecraft has a larger surface area than the planet earth. So, has anyone actually tried to build the planet Earth to scale?

Now before the trolls come marching telling me how dumb I am and all the ways it would never work I do understand there's some problems. Yeah, you can only build so far down and so far up so certain mountains and caves and trenches would be near impossible. There's no way to accurately map out cave systems, and there is to many topographical issues to even mention them all. Also, I understand, there are just some things that can't be made in Minecraft that exist in the real world. A single voxel block in game is suppose to have a surface of 1 meter, and not everything in this world can be converted easily to that. And I'm sure no one really knows every single human made object's architectural design. And yes, I know that filling the world with buildings, then buildings with rooms, then rooms with stuff would probably cause several people to die from brain aneurisms.

But I see so many amazing and ambitious creations in Minecraft! (http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/world-first-11-100-accurate-forbidden-city/ as most likely the biggest example). I've never seen a builder who built once and never built again. People are always churning out new ideas, all of them amazing! Certainly others have wanted to do this before.

So, back to the original question: Has anyone ever at least tried to build the planet Earth to scale? It doesn't even matter if you tried and so far and only found 1000 ways not to build the Earth!

its a good idea, but if your having problems with scale because each block is supposed to be 1 meter, you could try the little blocks mod. it would also allow you to build in better detail.

How about you star little by little, kind of like start with something like Project 1845 and work your way up with different cities. I'd also be happy to help if you put it in server form.

I guess the first place to start would be getting the topographical stuff done first then building the man made structures, just to see if a minecraft world could handle that.

Then on to building man made structures. It's hard to say where to start. And How to tell exactly how big buildings are without lot's of measurements.

Hmmm....I see it now....A kickstarter program to allow us to travel the whole planet converting it a piece at a time into Voxels

Salexp already made the Earth, but every block = 1 nautical mile, and he obviously didn't put in any buildings. But it is accurate, with correct ocean geography and correct vegetation and stuff. You might use Cubic Chunks, but only 1.7.3, that gives you some 65k, from the deepest point to the highest point is some 19km, might be a possibility for orbiting spacecraft? I also heard that there is a project to build 1:1 scale countries under 250m high.
