This is a list my friend gave me, (I already have a license for Windows)

I want to keep it under 600$.
And suggestions, changes or a new list entirely?

Cheers

(I bought the computer and I'm very impressed with it.)
I will add pics later

(Current build I'm going with)

Randomness3333Cheaper and better.

I am confused as to why any of you would think a 4300 is a good choice. The 6300 is only a 7$ more but with the amount of money spent on that CPU cooler and motherboard you can fit in an i5 which will destroy a 6300 unless it gets a massive overclock.

I ordered this today with an optical drive...

Yay! I'll post the performance when I get it.

Here's the new, updated list.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tfLnyc

Should I splurge for Windows 8, or just use the Win 7 license? Win 7 support is stopping in 6 months, but I'm on a tight budget.

Edit: Thanks for the help so far!

Good choices. I wouldn't pay the extra 90 bucks for Windows 8 since you already have 7, I mean if you feel like upgrading later on you can always do that :P

Oh boy this is gonna be long...

- The motherboard has USB 2.0 headers, but the case has a USB 3.0 front panel, so it won't work. Get a NZXT Source 210 (non elite version) instead (cheaper, but the only difference is that it has a front panel USB 2.0 and one less fan).

- The GPU is overpriced. You can get a R9 270 for a few bucks less but it's way more powerful.

- The RAM is overpriced. G.Skill Ripjaws X's offer the same performance but are on a $10 off promo right now on newegg, so go with that.

- You can save a couple bucks on the hard drive and go with a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB, it has the same performance.

Here's the improved parts list:

Overall it's $30 cheaper and will perform faster.

CPU: AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor ($101.91 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Biostar TA970 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.70 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270 2GB DirectCU II Video Card ($151.00 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($47.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $560.54

One more thing:
The motherboard that your friend chose isn't that great for overclocking, even though you have an aftermarket CPU cooler (which implies overclocking). If you want to overclock, I'd spend the extra ~20 bucks on a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P or an Asus M5A97 R2.0, but I didn't change that in the parts list. These two motherboards also have a BIOS that has a user friendly GUI in it, something that the Biostar motherboard lacks. If you do get one of these, get the NZXT Source 210 Elite case, since both motherboards have USB 3.0 headers and the 210 Elite case has a front panel USB 3.0
