✦GAME DESIGN CLUB: Learn to make engaging games✦
Welcome to Game Design Club! This is a place to learn the skills to make engaging games. Teachers will work with groups to design projects and/or discuss game design as a whole.
Game design can be very daunting, and I want to put an end to that. This forum is full of people who want to make awesome projects, but don't know how.
Game design is often hard to study because many people assume that you need to be working on big games with high level code. This is not the case. This club (even though we will look at other programs and code types) will be working with beginners in Minecraft and Scratch.
Topics you will learn about:
-creating gameplay
-designing levels
-character/monster/setting design
-testplaying your game
-how to create a reasonable project that you will finish
-organizing your build team
-marketing your game

Hey! I love the idea! I make websites. I have forums that you could use!
I could open threads and such for people without skype. So like threads would be:
lesson 1: getting started
lesson 2: introductions
lesson 3:
lesson 4:
and what not. I could host for you if you needed help. I am a programmer myself! PM me!

So, you're using Minecraft as a base? As in creating mods? Or are you using Scratch to create a project from... well, from scratch?
And, just out of interest, will this be taking place over Skype completely? Or on the forums?

all very good questions.
First, Minecraft and Scratch are very different. Their main use is to create faster prototypes. Minecraft is used if the project aims to be 3D based. Scratch is used if we are creating a 2D game.
Second, we are not creating mods. Although coding is a large part of game design, mods don't really teach the game design concepts we aim to get across. However, is you are planning on prototyping a 3D game that uses mechanics that minecraft can't provide, mods may be used. This is rare though, because you might as well download a base for Unity or something and just add to that. I am also always up to date with everything redstone can do. If it is possible in minecraft, we will do it in plain old minecraft (and I'm not even mentioning all the creative skills you learn from using a limited program).
Lastly, we will be working on skype. It is just plain faster and easier. Some people may not have skype, so private messages and a thread may be needed, but I much prefer using skype.
